I am convinced there are just no dang fish in Stillhouse. Unfortunately, I just bought a house 5 minutes from the marina ramp.

Good bass lake; very tough crappie lake. Fish way up lake close to the bridge area and further up. That clear water is hard on catching.

STILLOUSY is more of a river system than a lake, it also sits horizontally rather than north south as most texas lakes. just not enough nutrient rich water entering the lake, too much water movement during flooding, a sparse crappie population. after fishing it for way too many years, I will tell u your best option is night fishing . there is a point right down from cedar gap near the pump station that can be good, its deep and you fish deep. theres a cove back by dana peak park, that has a fishing dock way in the back, its no good there, but if u go in a boat as your going into that cove, theres a bend on the right side, with a shelf, and trees deep water, fish abt 5 cranks off the bottom, with minnows,. , we used to ok there at night, patience is the key, they come thru in waves, at different times. usually right at dark theres a bite, then u might wait 2 to 4 hours, and a wave will come thru. we used to bait spots out with sour chicken scratch to keep the baitfish in the area longer. being a mostly clear lake, the crappie tend to live deep. they live in the deeper rivers and channels. and go shallow to feed at night., if u like white bass fishing theres plenty to be caught. also some monster largemouth. very long fish, not alot of girth though. some monster flatheads are caught while jigging spoons for white bass as well. I used to live close to the lake too, but glad I moved near better lakes. many , many days I got skunked on that lake , shouldnt have wasted so much time on it. started going to belton and doing alot better, then waco and found nirvana. I always thought, Im going to figure stillhouse out, im going to crack the puzzle, but its just a poor crappie lake, and accepted it as such. It took me alot of nights to find productive night spots as well, just kept trying different areas until I found the few areas they go into. sometimes u can catch a few in spawn in front of cedar gap. but everybody and thier brother is out there,v keeping with many keeping undersized fish. wish I had better news, but it is what it is.
COMING SOON! .. THE STICKLE HOOK " the stay level sickle hook". sits level in the water with all knots.! Provides better hook sets and more natural jigging motion. No more adjusting the knot, gluing , or tying loop knots that cause the hook point to tangle in the loop, or worse knick the line.. The jighook that will make all others obsolete !

If you go into the Fort Hood area on the river you will find a couple 113 Track vehicles, unless they pulled them out. We had a mission to swim the vehicles across Stillhouse and the first two sank. The mission was abruptly canceled! Never fished it though!

yes, it runs closer to the South Side of the fort, but we were on West Range Road. Stillhouse Creek is what they call it but it is Really deep from what I saw! ha ha. Runs into Belton I think. Quite honestly I never went to Belton while there, just played in the river while in uniform.

I believe that's Cowhouse Creek that West Range Rd goes past. Cowhouse runs into Belton. I remember the news reports when those vehicles sank. They were retrieved from the creek.

I am getting old. I remember Stillhouse all over that area but yes, Cowhouse is the one I am talking about. Been a long time since I was there. Thanks for the reminder!

I actually pull some pretty nice crappie out of Cowhouse Creek. I can usually catch fish on Belton, although Cowhouse is the only area I really know on the south end of the lake. Stillhouse is just an entirely different animal.

Well in the fall of 2010 the crappie fishing on Stillhouse was very good for me above the bridge all the way up river about a mile above the gravel road bridge crossing. In 8 trips the total keepers caught was 339. Then the 2011 drought brought much new brush growth to the river area and scattered the crappie and made the fishing more difficult so I have moved on fishing other lakes and not spending much time on Stillhouse since 2010. Of the several trips back to Stillhouse since 2011, the quality of crappie caught is not what it was in 2010. I believe Stillhouse will have a comeback at some point and this years full lake in the vegetation is a good start. I like fishing Stillhouse when the water level is at least 3 feet below normal pool. I agree the fishing has been tough the past 11 years but this lake can fool you in the amount of good crappie in it.
