Can someone give me direction on how to sell my boat that has a lien? I want the buyer to feel protected and assure them they are receiving title upon lien payoff.

I bought a motorcycle once that had a lien on it. I met the seller at his bank and we did the transaction there at his bankers desk. I paid him, he paid off the loan, the banker released the title and handed it to me.

We bought our boat from a guy near Austin. It was financed at his Credit Union so we got our Credit Union to contact his and they did all the work. Our CU gave us a check for $22K and we drove down on a Saturday morning and meet him at his CU. His CU took our check, paid it off, and credited his account the rest of the money and sent the Lien Papers to our CU. We hooked on to the boat and headed home.

I sold my pontoon to a guy in Minnesota. It was financed through Tinker Federal Credit Union in Oklahoma. I met him in Oklahoma, he brought a bank draft. I drove over and paid the boat off, collected my cash over my balance and drove back home. It was simple. he knew the title would be a couple weeks getting to me, I gave him a bill of sale with all the dollar amounts, serial numbers, registration numbers....etc. With the agreement i would send the title as soon as I got them. I mailed the titles off Saturday to him.

This post was dated July 2021, so hopefully the guy already sold it by now.

Me too, but adding experiences, even on an older post, may help someone out, in the future.

I just bought a boat with a Lien through my bank. My neighbor had a boat financed through Yamaha. So he did not have the titles. We agreed on a price, I got pre approved for the loan, we drew up a bill of sale, he called Yamaha and got a payoff, the bank drew up the paper work and we signed everything. The bank paid off the Yamaha loan and the owner signed the title release forms. When the titles came we finished our signing and did the TPWD paperwork and the trailer licenses paperwork. Easy.

i know every situation is different but for the ones who received their title in mail, about how long did it take? i paid off a lien , the credit union told me 2-3 weeks in mail. It has now been 31 business days. i would think thats plenty of time right, but if i read correctly in state of texas, they are allowed 30 business days before mailing. any correct info is appreciated thank you
