Fished in this spot for about 2 hours, then the sandbass moved on. Would say that for every 20 sandbass I would catch one cat fish and about 4 drum. Was fun, and it was good to see fish on the bottom, some had shad poking out of their stomach. This is a good sign, and tells me the shad are out in deeper water up the lake. Caught a easy limit, and biggest was 13.5 inches.. Take care all..

No Video, getting up at 3am so i need to hit the sack..

Denton creek is stagnant. Water looks pretty hot/green. Haven't been up fishing in n a while. Let us know how it goes. Fished yesterday and i checked the hump by the crusher and it was a ghost town. Didn't fish murrell point, foubd schooling fish out in mid lake channel at 7pm but they didn't stay up long. Went off the beaten path yesterday, and found fat sandbass and big crappie on the east edge of rock ledge park. Right in front of the picnic tables. Out where the drop is, maybe 25 yards from the brush line. Sandbass were 11-13 inches long, fished right up to sunset. I was in 20ft right on top of the drop.

Stumbled upon them while out scanning, have found some really good settings for the hummingbird..

Fishing was tough yesterday didn’t quite get into them. We paddled a good ways up hitting sumerged timber along with way. Ended up with a couple small sand bass no keeper got them off a blue crappie jig and my buddy caught a few decent ones with two keepers. Watched one guy did catch a monster of a crappie. Cant tell you the depths of the creek due to me grabbing the wrong battery for my fish finder but water was still discolored.

Late report, but 7/10 was a hard morning to catch fish unless they were up schooling on top. Worked a dozen spots marking good numbers of fish from the dam to rock crusher. maybe caught 10 fish and only one legal length. I'm having the hardest time with GV this year. I can mark a stack of fish that would be money on any other lake and not get one bite. I will be out this Wednesday evening and Saturday morning. Not giving up yet.

I have been doing well with the smaller cordell spoons. The two middle spoons are all that I have been using lately. Note: the one on the left needs a smaller hook...

Scale down and see if this helps.. If I am catching them really good, i step up in size. I will do thia until I start catching better fish. If I just want to catch fish I stay with the smaller of the two in the picture. I have used a large spoon this year, but wasn't producing very well...

It will really pick up when the water drops another 2 feet. A majority of the brush will be out of the water, so everything will be pushed back to the lake structure. I think 7 days without any heavy rains, and it will be very interesting. Will be on the lake tomorrow so i will pass on any info i find..

Launched at 6am, and tried to help a boat get on some fish. We headed to Murrell point which had some good fish on it, but they were not cooperating. I gave some pointers to the boat, and headed to the dam. Fished around the dam all day today. Non-stop sandbass schooling down there. I caught a ton of fish, then worked the rocks for bass. I made three passes on the dam and all three passes down the dam I caught bass. I then worked the north bank and then repeated the rocks.. Caught fish all day long, and then found a brush pile loaded with big crappie. After I left that brush pile, a boat anchored on it and stayed for 6 hours. I got tired of catching the smaller fish, and started throwing a crankbait. I caught very few fish, but the ones I caught were good fish. I had at least two limits of big Donkeys, just throwing a crankbait. Left at 830pm,and had a great day. Found a bunch of lures..

The size of the bait they are chasing.

I saw your truck at the ramp but I never went to the dam. We caught 40+ of the 8" sandies at Rock crusher. Murrel and the island didn't produce. We left at 8pm.

I don't normally fish down there (dam area) because of the wake boats. But as the water is falling I have been catching some good fish on the rocks. I have been trying to pick up a good smallie, but haven't connected. I had two really good fish follow my bait up to the boat, but didn't bite.
I had several wake boats drive right thru the school of sandbass I was fishing, and I let them know how I felt about it. One boat stopped for a second after he "nearly drove his boat into my casted crankbait". I don't know if they are trying to focus on the rider behind the boat, and not paying attention to the small details. But from what I have been seeing lately, i think the wakeboats drop your common sense down about to mouth breather status the minute you get on the water. I have been tinkering with a swim jig for some big fish, and had no luck connecting yesterday. Cannot wait for the hummingbird mega live imaging to get out, will really help identify some bigger fish. I got bored of catching sand bass yesterday, using a spinning reel with a slow retrieve turns into work. If you dont see schoolong fish down on the dam, just work a shallow running crankbait down the 6-8ft range (dam rocks) and you might see them. They are out maybe 150 yards from the dam and chasing bait. As it all depends on the bait, it could change. Wind was out of the south, so the north side was better for the bigger fish. Wind was light during the day, and strong at 6pm. Still using med size Cordell spoon with smaller hook, the crankbaitbi used yesterday was the fatfree shad (top right) in the picture above. I put new hooks on it..

Sand bass are healthy, and fat. We had a great shad spawn, so we are in for some fun. In about 5 days, the brush will be mostly out of the water so it will be "On like Donkey Kong"... There is a collosal amount of bait up in the upper end of the lake low areas that will be out of the water, and the bait cannot take the hot water so it will get better and better.

Note:. Im still not seeing many good fish down deep. I see the bait , and the wolf packs as they come thru. As for seeing fish on the bottom, i saw fish at murrell but they didn't react. But, it could have been some other species..

Take care all.. going out in a few. I forgot to renew my (year to date) fishing license but had a reminder on my phone.

It is something easy to overlook, but you can buy one online and they will send it in the mail. You have a confirmation email, and it can be verified. Never hurts to check the date on your license..

Launched about 11am, looked around the lower end but not much going on. I fished for the green fish and about 2pm I ran into them near the entrance of silver lake marina. They pushed some bait up into the cove on the left, they worked them briefly and then went down. The school i saw (at 2pm) was moving fast, and not easy to follow. I went back to fishing for Bass and about 5pm the light switch turned on. I was on the North side of the lake and sand bass were everywhere. I took some snapshots of the hummingbird 360 midday when I ran into some large bait balls, you can see the bait and the fish chasing them. I caught a few, which were about 9-10 inches long and continued to bass fish. At 6pm I started to see larger schools on the north side of the lake, and in the middle of the lake. At 4pm I went to Big Daddy's, at scotts landing. Sand bass were at the mouth of the cove, and in the cover near Big Daddy's. Was a good day, Bass fishing was slower than yesterday as I did some looking around. Also did some gardening planting some wood on a point.

Good report. I will be out Saturday morning and will have to go check out the north side by the dam. Hopefully they will be throttling the gates back so they will settle into the usual summer pattern.
