Does anyone on here ever pull an RV and a boat behind the RV? I understand the challenges here but am curious how often this is done?

Have to be aware of the length limit in Texas and other states. I thought about towing a small truck and bass boat behind my motor home so that I would have a way to launch the boat without using the RV but would be over length. Best scenario would probably be a shorter 5th wheel trailer and mid size boat towed by a regular cab truck to get the most length for the RV and boat....

Not to exceed 65' I believe, in TX anyway. I want to, but I'm past that with my set up, so now I'm wondering just how much it's enforced. laugh

I've never done it. But have had the chat with several others who have.
We didn't get into specifics on the double tow. But I have been told that while Texas does have the length limit, it's something that is rarely enforced unless your way out of bounds on the length.

Friend of mine does it. He is a little over and has never been checked in Texas, but got a ticket in Florida!

You may not get a ticket but if something happens Ben Abott and others will be licking their chops.

I had a GMC 3500 Crew cab with a long bed. Towed a 38' fifth.wheel with a 21' bass boat behind it. Towed it many times to Amistad,Falcon and to eastern Oklahoma. Never had a problem with highway patrol. At that time our pastor was a retired Sargent in the Texas DPS. He said they didn't pay much attention to RVs double towing. Yes I was over 65' and could have been stopped but never was and towed through San Antonio and Oklahoma City with no problem.

Guess it all depends on how lucky you are. One of my family members did it with a 1 ton crew cab dually a 32 foot 5'er and a 20 foot bay boat. They were over the limit and got pulled over on the first trip with it. They had to leave the boat and come back and get it or have it towed. Said they would never do it again.

I've done it several times. I don't recommend it. All it takes is having your RV and boat in different lanes ONE time to suddenly make it a bad idea.

I did it some years ago, it can get a little stressful in the city but on the highway it wasn't bad at all. If you do it get sway bars for the boat it will help a lot.

I did it a couple times with my big dodge ..Just couldn't get comfortable...with what I saw in Mirro...As for being pulled over ...its probably hard to measure at 70mph so they just leave alone unless there is some other violation..and they get to lookin..

It can get more complicated with different laws/lengths in different states as well.
But like said above not often enforced. Should you be involved in a fender bender the insurance companies might be the worst to deal with.

first time you have to back out of someplace you didn't mean to pull into will convince you it's a bad idea.

it will happen.

I've pulled a 12 ft utility trailer behind my fifth wheel without much concern. As someone mentioned, you need to not get in situation where backing very much is necessary. My concern of being over the 65 ft limit was not so much the patrolmen but being in a accident and having bunch of liability because of it.

Dumb idea IMHO. Legal liabilities if you're in an accident (even if it's not your "fault" truly but someone could twist it into being your fault due to not being legal), inability to operate in reverse at all, and potential ticket from law enforcement are all bad reasons. Also I've seen really long rigs trying to make it down some highways under construction and they had to go halfway in the other lane to make some of the tight curves. It's really dangerous and illegal for good reason. I've never considered it personally.

I've heard many stories of folks doing it in Texas and being ticketed for it. Often they're forced to leave behind one of the items and come back to get it. I just wouldn't take the risk.
