Tough day. The wind was strong and I definitely made mistakes.

Had two nice blue cat at the boat and poor jug line management or whatever I ended up losing both of them they just were not hooked very well. That said they were hooked well enough that if I made the right decisions I could have stringered them.

On the plus side sandbass for everywhere! I was able to bring of the nice ones home for dinner. I got tired of catching Sand Bass. I was trolling a small crankbait through them and it was just one after the next.

I did battle a couple of really nice gar again! That was fun but not what I wanted to accomplish.

And I had a 6-in sand bass throw up multiple baby shad onto my foot...which was a first!

I'm very aware of all regulations, limits, legal methods of taking fish and the designations of any waterways that I fish or capture bait from.

I do appreciate the comment though, that's something people need to make sure they're aware of.

Dan,

Then I guess you are aware now, if you want to keep or kill a turtle, you must now have a hunting license. And there is one specific turtle that is on the endangered species, so you want to toss it back. For sure. Hot Tater!

As to jugs, I was using bleach jugs, but now use the Tradewinds tea gallon jugs. I write the info directly on the portion of the jug that will stand up if you have a small weight on the end of the main line. As the date expires, I cross thru it, and add the new date (re-date). Or alter it, if possible. If no weight, then write on the suide that you float facing up. I don't use noodles, as a big Op can hold them down under easily.

Thanks Lynn... Also it's a good thing I don't want to keep or kill a turtle.

Bummed that things didn't go as well as planned yesterday and I'm going to have to wait another week to go fishing again...

But at least I got my strategy down. I'll do better next week.

Few questions. Thoughts on how to tag them? I have been attaching a ziplock sandwhich bag to swivel on the bottom of the jug. On the baggie I write the info. One of them I used a rubberband to hold the baggie on. This works, just wondering if there is some better way I am not thinking of.

All tips welcome.

I just right on the jug with a black marker. You will have to change the date every 10 days, So just mark through the old date and put the new date under it.

Good way to track how often you fish ha. It will end up looking like Egyptian hieroglyphics after a while. But, that is the simple solution, and those are often the best.

Thank Nick. I'm going to go try again this Friday and hopefully I can update you guys with some stories of success... Other than catching gar and baby Sand Bass LOL.

The largemouth fishing has slowed down quite a bit so I'll probably bring some catfish rods and try drifting across some structure while I fish my jugs in different likely spots.

Was not able to get out Friday. Lots of rain, shifting and strong winds, lighting and large swells... just could not get out in the yak. I went to check it out with the intention of launching but it was just not wise.

Got an invite to join a buddy on his boat on Saturday for some bass action on a small lake in Oklahoma. That was pretty good!

Back to catfish fish fishing hopefully next Friday. To be continued. rock

Get you a roll of white duck tape and do a wrap on one end of the foam. Magic marker to write your info on there. Cross out the previous date and re-date each trip. I think your good for 5 days from your date, though I'd have to look that up to verify.

# of jugs limited by hook quantity? I believe Texas has a 100 hooks in the water limit?
So in Texas, if each of your jugs has one hook; maximum number of jugs deployed at one time =100 ?

I bought a perch trap from a guy and he suggested using pieces of styrofoam in the trap instead of tuna or bread etc. It works pretty well and no mess. I guess curiosity catches the perch.

I made about a dozen PVC jugs and haven't made it out with them yet. I wrote my information right on the PVC and bought some trail marking ribbon I plan to tie on with date written in sharpie... maybe put a couple dates on each ribbon then tear off and replace.
