Poor lake Whitney the whipping post of Texas lakes . 11 ft. over and still coming up .

Yep. And it’s one of the lakes close to me I frequent(wont for a while now). 11.5’ above and rising. I live here outside Glen Rose & see the Brazos daily. It’s a flooded muddy mess. Granbury is basically a river releasing all the enters. It’s a flowing muddy mess full of floaters from one end to the other. Oh well. “Flood control” is a huge reason Whitney was built. BRA never lets PK or Granbury even get to full pool EVER so the COE on Whitney has to deal with managing the downstream flooding. The BRA has the right to release regardless of what/who is effected. Through all this Granbury & PK have remained 1’+ BELOW full pool.

Yep, happens every time there is flooding. PK and Granbury start dumping water and Whitney is left to hold the bag...so to speak. At least they are letting some significant water out of the dam at Whitney now. For the last week they have kept is at about 600 cfs, but I looked today and they have brought that up to 18,000 cfs now. PK is releasing 28,400 and Granbury is 31,640 so that's not going to help things at Whitney for a while.

It has been a tuff year for everyone surrounding the Brazos River chain, the fishing has suffered as well.

Flooding and drought…welcome to Texas. I would rather have temporary flooding than to see lakes like Granbury 11 feet low again.

Whitney came up 1' in the last 24 hours and is now 12.51' above "full pool". Granbury is now releasing 34,470 cfs and Whitney is at 25,152. So obviously Whitney will continue to rise at those rates. It looks like they have slowed down the release a PK a bit, probably to give the folks at Horseshoe Bend some flooding relief.

Why are they not kicking up the release? How much can they release? Doesn't the water coming out of Whitney and into the Brazos just go down river to the ocean???

BTW - we have crossed over the Brazos at 290 and it is high. Not as high as I've seen at other times but high.

Looks like today Whitney is actually releasing more than PK and Granbury.

Granbury = 22,300

That's not exactly correct. Flood operations are a highly complex set of actions involving the cooperation of all entities involved, which in this case is the BRA and the COE. Both agencies are working together, along with several other water body controlling authorities, to determine the correct release rates from every lake in the Brazos Basin. Whitney has by far the largest flood pool which is why it typically catches and holds the most flood water.

PK was over last week, not by much, but it was over.

Drove over the Whitney dam yesterday and it was a pretty wild scene. The picnic benches at the park by the dam were so far under water all that was sticking up was the very tops of the metal roofs. And dang...they were letting out a LOT of water. You could white water raft down that river yesterday and have a wild ride!

The Kimball Bend bridge has been closed for a few days now due to high water.

Whitney has finally started dropping!

What’s the real story with the Kimball Bend bridge? Reduced to one lane and now closed because of high water?
C’mon man.

I have heard, closed to one lane so 80k lb trucks aren't on the same span same time, and in past years, the trees/stumps and brush clogged the undercarriage enough to make it dangerous and they had to have a loader pulling trash from one side of the bridge to the other to relive stress on the bridge. Most of that I've heard, not seen, but the undercarriage is only 8-10' above normal level.
