According to TPWD website last stocking of hybrids in Millers creek was in 2017. 2016 survey suggested they quit stocking them because of no one was fishing for them.

Miller’s Creek is a little further then Waurika. But if It’s not heavily fished for hybrid, they might be really big in there. I’ll try anything once. Lol

Cool thread! I am one of the mepps clone makers as well. Guess we all want the #4 mepps to be heavier so i tried 3/8 oz to 3/4 oz body weight. The orig #4 mepps weigh is 1/4 oz. Same results here, the more weigh added, the slower spin start. I did have good results catching hybrids on the 1/2 oz body during aggressive feeding months. But for the tougher months and August and September, for my area lakes the fish hug close to the bottom and they want smaller blades, so the slow spin-start will miss the strike zone. Also the blade size and make is inconsistent. One batch the blade spins smoothly, no "wobble". Then next batch the lure would wobble too much, i can feel the bite but less hookups ratios. This was about 5 years sgo.

I had good luck with white tubings which are from drink straws lol. For the body, i tried gold, silver, lead, it doesnt seem to make a diff.

Pic here i use two 1/4 leads to mske 1/2oz. I used some white and red straw also. I don't have pic pf all white straw but did well on the white straw color.




Also the depth and regional lakes may play a factor as well. So its best to have an open mind.

Sea-Pro, those are great! It just feels awesome to make your own baits and go out and get them to work. And when I’m catching and people come over and ask what I’m using, I can say a “homemade bait”. It’s pretty sweet!

Have to agree with Windbreaker. Its fun and satisfying making and catching on the home mades as long as it doesn't consume more time or got more expensive than the original lol.. One time a buddy used a door key, drilled a hole and put a ring and hook on it and caught fish. Now that's creative LOL!

I have been making my own inlines for about 2 years now. Started out making them just for creek Sandbass but started making bigger ones for the lake as well.


I do have a question though......for those that are using tube on the hook shank what is the reason behind it? I always just put the bare hook on there.

Great thread! Hey guys when you’re making these if someone would make me a couple of big ones let me try them on the striper. I have tried many different applications of inline spin type before and after meeting Dennis Christian and I just never have found anything that outperform other methods. I have noticed when the bite is finicky and slow and the wind is very calm that’s when it can produce strikes generally from white bass and small stripers here at Texoma so that’s why I’m thinking big 😀😀🤪😂

Chris, I’m going to put in an order soon and I will order some big blades and get them to you. I would be curious as to how they perform at Texoma as well.

This last week, I have outperformed the slabbers, and live bait except one time the guys had live bait that they caught from the lake with a cast net. They outperformed the clone. Always tough to beat live bait, but I have a couple times.

You can't chum with a clone. When live baiters chum, they can hold the school under the boat longer and catch more fish.

All three of the clones use a .25 polished brass body---heavier than a Mepp's # 4. Spin good off the bottom. But think they still needs some modifications to fish as good as Mepp's right Dennis?

There have been many trips in the summer where mepps out caught bait guys close to me. I can't explain why but seen it many times. And that's without DC on my boat lol

I out-fished several live bait guys this week and slabbers. All on the same point as me. I can’t explain it either. But it works. I’ve been fishing this way since 2013 and it’s really hard to switch back to anything else. I think a lot of it has to do with the confidence you have in the bait your using. If you are confident in live bait, go for it. I’m confident with this bait thanks to DC!!

Went to Miller’s Creek, It was a tough bite. We went the day after a storm on a calm day which is usually a tough day on any lake. We searched for hybrids and whites on main lake structure and didn’t find any. We were trolling and others were trolling and we only saw one fish caught. So we decided to go throw worms on the dam for some Green Carp. And we hooked 3 nice ones and only got one to the boat....8lber
