I'm not afraid of snakes but I am cautious around them. Even the non-venomous ones can bite you and hit you with a nasty infection afterwords.

I always heard that. Turns out their mouths are exceptionally clean. Infection from non venomous snake bites are extremely rare and most of them don't really hurt

Just kidding of course. But its still a possibility so I'll remain cautious lol.

Many years ago fishing I pulled a worm off a matted mossy bank and a water moccasin jumped all over my worm. Reeled it in. Never actually hooked but wouldn’t let go of worm till I reeled him up and shook him off at boat. A year or so ago I reached into a box on our patio and a snake bit me and latched onto my hand. Wouldn’t let go. Looked like a rattlesnake(color) for a second. Later identified it as a rat snake. I almost died from that snake bite!.....from a heart attack! So ALL snakes can kill you!

had one bite a crankbait about 10' down on Grand Lake. When I pulled it in (thought I had a small fish) I panicked and tossed the lure/snake up on the bank. Thankfully the snake wrapped itself around a log on the bank and I ripped the bait free.

When I was a kid Crappie fishing Toledo Bend with my Grandfather, we pulled up the stringer a couple times that had a Moccasin with a Crappie in it's mouth. My Grandfather would just grab it behind the head and cut it's head off with his pocket knife. One time a Moccasin fell out of a tree into the boat right in front of my feet. I instantly transformed into a Human helicopter.

I was fishing a pond with the guy who did maintenance at my business years ago. We were in a jon boat. A water moccasin was swimming across the surface and he threw a rattletrap past it and tried to hook it. I yelled at him to leave the snake alone but he tried it again. This time he hooked it about midway.

I asked, "Okay, what are you going to do now, smart guy?"

He started yanking it through the air, back and forth over the boat, trying to sling it off his hook.

At the time I was about 6'5' and 240. He was 5'9" and 310. I told him, "If that snake falls off in the boat after I told you to leave it alone you and I are going to find out who can whip whose [censored]."

When I was in my teens growing up in Florida-I would wade the shallow reeds in lake Okeechobee for bass. Caught alot of big fish doing this but also caught a coupleof water moccasins and killed a few others with whatever I could get my hands on as they charged me! You couldn't pay me to get in that water now!!!

I had one chase a senko on the surface, let go as I tried to boat flip.

If it is a non-venomous snake, then you can try and remove the hook. If you don’t know for sure then don’t mess with it. You do not want to mess with a venomous water moccasin, unless you know what you are doing. All water snakes typically have a nasty disposition and will bite you. There have been people die from non-venomous snake bites by having a heart attack.

Oh and they hit flies too.

Beat it to death with paddle unhook and release!

Never seen so many snakes in a lake like they used to be in Cooper Lake. We mainly fished the west timber and they were everywhere. My buddy and his son in law were there one day and he is terrified of snakes. Dang walmart bag was in the boat and the wind blew it on his leg and he just bout unazzed that boat right there. Used to throw a topwater across their back and snag them
