Has anyone ever had a snake grab a top water bait ? If so, what did you do when you got it reeled in?

Tighten the drag all the way and then chuck the reel as far as possible.

I'm kidding, I haven't had that happen but I almost stepped on one the other day.

Did it happen to you? I wouldn't know what to do.

If that happened to me, that snake would be keeping that top water and about 20 feet of line

Yes. Grab the snake behind the head and remove bait.
Or cut snakes head off and remove bait.

The second option is the way I go.

Retirement best job ever.

Fishing Roberts probably 20 years ago near Johnson Branch swimming area. Copperhead swam by and there were lots of folks swimming. Stuck snake on pop r. Customer asked what I was going to do now. I just put 101 Minnkota on high, pulled the prop just above water and dropped old Sneaky into it. Worked very well.

Those snakes have got the best of me on the water. I've never hooked one but I've prolly busted 4 or 5 rods over the years swatting them and the boat when they try and get in with ya . Spawn time is their time, too. That's when they're the most territorial and most aggressive. Anymore, I'd just throw rod and all at 'em and hightail it outta there. I have a tremendous phobia of any kind of snake.

Just reel it in and get the hook out. No big deal. I don't understand the fear of snakes
