I fully expect to see him post a video later telling how you can take an old fat catfish, filet it, and soak the meat in beer to eat the fat off of it! food

Their diet seems to be more important than the species. Bass that feed mostly on snakes and frogs and stuff that comes up out of the mud don't taste nearly as good as bass that feed mostly on shad and herring in cool, clear open water.

My Grandpa would come down to visit us from Idaho back in the day, right after cars were invented, and would bring big coffee cans filled with frozen bass fillets. I think he said the fish weighed between 2 and 3 pounds and that size made the best fillets and eating...:)

No answer on the catfish that are pretty tasty even though they are bottom feeders and like stink bait. What is your take on that??

I don’t think the salt is necessary for fish. I just like to keep them cold and don’t see the need for salt. They’re getting cut as soon as the boats onthe trailer.

Before golf tournaments when I’m throwing a hotel party for customers I’ll fill the bathtub full of ice, beer, and rock salt; It’s almost freezing when we get back. Perfect!

What about the diet of the snakes and the frogs? Does that make a difference in how the bass that feeds on them taste?

I was wondering, how do you know if a bass that you ate only feeds on snakes and frogs?

Does the flavor of a bass change from state to state?

There is Cajun seasoning, corn meal, baked, etc. so yep. State to state they taste differently. Lol

I use crumbled up Ritz crackers instead of corn meal. Pretty tasty but those fish were from Lake Nacogdoches when I was in college many years ago. I never noticed a difference in flavor from them or the ones caught at lake Sam Rayburn. Maybe since they were both Texas fish they taste the same.
