so if you've seen my posts in the bluegill/sunfish sections you probably know I'm starting to get into ultralight and creek fishing. I'd love to ultralight fish for some creek smallmouth, and the closest lake to me with smallmouth is lake grapevine. I was wondering if there were any lesser-known creeks that have some solid smallmouth populations? not looking for a big record-breaking fish, but decent-sized fish that are in relatively large quantities. However, since I have not been to grapevine lake before I don't know how the fish there work, so Im not yet sure what creeks to go to, or if they just stay in the arms of the lake. I appreciate any tips! thank you!

Not a very big population of smalljaws in the Vine, itโs tough to specifically target them IMO. Initial stocking took place in Twin Coves, if they were going to be in a creek that would be where Iโd look.

The smallmouth on Gvine do not go up the creeks and stay in the main lake. There is a good population down by the dam and I catch them on crappie tubes when crappie fishing.

Depending on how far you want to travel, you could easily catch some creek guadalupe, spotted and largemouth bass. But I would think smallmouth would be one of the most difficult to catch in a creek.
Thats my money fish Kris Winhold

I'd love to hook into a Guadalupe... where would I generally find them? most of the lakes near DFW only seem to have LMB and the occasional spotted bass...

any ideas on where to find creek Guadalupe and spotted bass? I've been LMB fishing for way too long, and would like dive into the sub species and generally panfish as a whole.

Most all of my smallmouth that Iโve caught on GV have been at the mouths of major creek arms, main lake, and the dam. Iโve caught very few actually up in the creeks.
