What's your long range go to rifle?

I built a 6.5 Grendel, 20" barrel with a Vortex PST 6x24x50 FFP. I can generally set up and be banging
an 18x30 silhouette at 800 yards with my first shot. I use Strelok for my D.O.P.E. sheet and load a 123 grain
Hornaday SST bullet. If I had to do all over again, 6.5 would be me platform for all my ARs.

Why would you want all of your ARs the same caliber?

Reloading 4 rifle calibers becomes tedious. 308 is expensive and heavy. I just think the 6.5 is an awesome round. Nothing
I can do about it now, just saying, if I had to do it all over again. I have some really nice ARs in 5.56 and love shooting them
but brass prep is time consuming. I have already dumped my AR10. Still have a Tika in 308 for hunting but those are two
different animals for sure. I also run 300 Black out but that is a specialty firearm and I don't put a lot of rounds down it.

I have a couple grendels, my go to is 6.8 SPC. If I want some real thump I bring out the 458 socom.

I agree with you, just was wondering why you would want all of your ARs the same. I like the 5.56 and 300 blackout for different uses. AR10 was too heavy to carry all night for pigs.

Interesting that you would prefer the 6.8 spc over 6.5. I had some friends what went with the 6.8 when it first was the
rage but they never got the performance that they were looking for. I haven't even thought about that round in years.

I have yet to go on a pig hunt but if I did, I would definitely use my 300 B/O. it''s suppressed with a 10.5 barrel has IR and I shoot it
subsonic, wouldn't want to scare the other piggys.

Loading for it I have an awesome mix. I share projectiles with my 277 wolverine. I’ve found that grendels are picky and most factory loads are too heavy for it to be great. I get much better performance out of 90-107gr projectiles than the 120-130 range. Out to 500y the Grendel and spc are within single-double digits on fps and energy. They are virtually identical. The Grendel exceeds over the 6.8 past 500y however the energy is below the threshold for ethical taking of game. So past 500y it’s a hole punch.

I’ve got a few that reach out pretty good. These are the ones that come to mind. 270 Wby mag with 4x12 Euro scope I can’t spell. 300 win mad with 2x16 Vortex. Custom Rem. 700 338 Win Mag with 26 inch Douglas barrel, 4x12 Bushnell Engage scope.

Maybe my favorite is Mark X action with Hart barrel 257 Wby mag. Just ordered a 4x16 Athlon scope that’s laying on my front porch, hope it’s there when I get back.

I have gun issues. I’ve been in the gun a month club for many years.

Thanks, Billy

I don't go to my long range gun often but when i do it's a remington model 700 .243 that I bought from Oshmans back in early 60's...it came with a 4 power Weaver scope that I later replced with a 3X9 power Tasco scope....

I’m not interested in long range, but I will post up another gun because why not?

Pre 64 Model 70 30.06 is my long range, short range, hunting, sniping, defense rifle. Has the same Weaver K4 that came on it from Oshman's sporting goods in Beaumont Texas. It'll still stack them in one ragged hole at 100yd, if I do my part. When it comes to guns, I'm a simple sort of guy with functionality coming in 1st place. Model 70 rifle, 870 Rem shotgun duties, Glock 19 bedside, Smith & Wesson 9mm Shield EDC and a Kahr CW 380 shorts and T shirt gun.

I HAD lots of guns, but lost them ALL when my boat sank going to a hunt on the other side of the lake.
