Hi all. I’m thinking about going night fishing this weekend, but I’m not sure if this is a good time of year or maybe it’s not a seasonal thing. Any thoughts if it would be worthwhile? Also, any good submersible lights that you would recommend? Looking for something good, but maybe one a little less than the $400 model. Thank you.

I night fish on Possum Kingdom in the summer. It's been my experience that I never catch Crappie in Green lights. When I catch crappie at night its in a area illuminated by a low mercury or dock light. Because PK is very clear, I can see very deep into the water around green lights. If a Crappie swims into that illuminated area chasing shad or Ghost minnows, one of those big bass or stripers will eat him.
I've never used them but back in the day people used to put a car headlight in styrofoam and shine it down into the water. I was told these worked but I never used one.
John 21:3 Simon Peter saith unto them, I go a fishing. They say unto him, We also go with thee.

I night fish when it gets to hot to fish during the day with great results. I use green Led lights from academy Before we had these we used a car headlamp sealed the connections with silicone and tied a weight on headlamp and it would shine up toward bottom of the boat and worked really good. Led will not use your battery up like a headlight will. Most of the fish will bite in the shadows of the light just outside of the batiball that collect around the lights .I bought the larger led lights but smaller will work. Night fishing provides relief from the hot sun ,jet fleas and wake boats. Good luck !

Thanks much, guys. This forum seems to have a lot of people that don’t mind sharing info. I appreciate you all.
I also caught what you did there with “jet fleas”, which gave me a good laugh! I’ll report back if I go.

Be careful of wake boats coming in after dark. Had them kick a wake over the front of my boat a few times while I was tied up fishing a dock light.

Great point, PKFishin. I have this mental image that I’ll have the whole lake to myself. I think I’m in for a surprise.

Its the waves or boats that you don't see that catches you off guard. I use spotlock so never tied up but have seen some big waves.

Cool setup, Gar. Do you have to have a separate battery for that?

Cool setup, Gar. Do you have to have a separate battery for that? Thanks shady15! I run the lights off my starting battery. They are led and draw hardly any power I can use them all weekend and have almost a full charge on my size 27 battery
