Bamboo is way better IMO. It doesn't last long but holds fish really well and you never hang up in it.

I’ve had some bamboo tops made from 2&1/2†to 3†bamboo last for four years and still hold a substantial number of crappie.
The Truth is six of the seven Dwarfs are not Happy!

I used bamboo. I Put them out right after I make them and while they are still green and full of leaves. They will hold fish and some will hold lots of fish but they only last about 3-4 years This is my experience, put them out as soon as the sacrete is dry.
