The shad are only part of the equation. On Sunday, I went out to Welch Park. I got there just in time to watch J-Moe and the boys havin at it. I got out there with my daughter and our kayaks and set up about 30 yds further out than they were casting ( I wouldnt want to potlick, now would I?). Wow what a difference those 30yds made. My daughter and I threw everything we had at them. Rattletraps, crankbaits, jigs, swim baits, lil georges, rooster tails....Nothing. We were out there all day and couldnt get a mosquito to bite. There was no afternoon bite out there either (for us anyway). I found out that there is a good drop off right in front of where those boys were slayin' em. I figured they would move out deeper as the sun rose, but nope, just plain disappeared. I didnt have any luck at the buoys either, but I didn't give that too much effort, as the little girl was ready for swimming by that point. The moral of the story...Ya gotta be in the right spot at the right time. Or just potlick. grin

Ended up catching 8 whites (7 keepers) and 1 catfish all on the same lure. They would sporadically school a ways out busting shad, it happened about 5 or 6 times in the later morning, but they wouldn't last long. Each time it was a few minutes. Boys it coming next week I'm telling ya.

And slopez.... It doesn't matter if you caught anything. The best part of that story is that you got to fish with your daughter. That's winning.

I haven't had a chance to go out in the morning again but I have went out the last 3 evenings. The evening bite is always hit or miss. I caught 7 on Tuesday, None yesterday and 27 this evening. There were some very positive signs tonight though. There was a lot of bird activity and surfacing this evening. I potlicked off the birds tonight grin

So what will this cold front do to the shad spawn and white bass?

Yes I did fish a little there way down the shore from the eagle and then went over to meet up with J-Moe at Welch park.
I got skunked again and this time I stunk up the place so bad that even J-Moe didn't catch anything!

I swear that J-Moe guy is gonna have to stop fishing with me if this skunking continues.. wink

I can attest that j-Moe did not get skunked on Friday. Occasionally, I would take one off my stringer and put it on his fly. He had fun with that. grin

But I was afraid this cold front would push the shad off the banks, sounds like that played out Saturday. Bummer. Hopefully after a few days of sun, the banks with light up again.
