This topic is for all the old guys (like me I guess) that have run the old 2 strokes for years. I was thinking about upgrading to a new 200 hp Proxs 4 stroke, but the videos I see online of the top speeds they are getting out of these motors don’t sound worth it to me. Are there any old guys that have run the old Intruders, XRi’s, EFI’s, OX 66 motors without all the smog [censored] that they put on them in later years that think the new 4 strokes are better than these? I have a ‘93 Pantera II and that boat should run 71-73 mph with a 200 on it all day long especially for a $20k engine. I don’t wont to spend that kind of money and be disappointed with the power, and wish I had just rebuilt what I had.

P.S. - I don’t care about gas mileage in a boat either.

I’d like a 4 stroke, but same as you have noticed, if I found a 1-2 year old 2 stroke for a deal I’d buy it and run it 15 more years.

I would love to have a new OX66, I’d buy one today if they’d make one.

I’m going run my carb two stroke until it dies. Then I’ll drive to Mexico and buy another one.

I gonna use my old 2 stroke XR6 until I can't get parts for it anymore. That being said I'll replace it with a 4 stroke when it finally dies and I'm forced to. I see your in Lewisville so if you don't mind a drive for one of the best mechanics on these old Mercury 2 strokes in the country just pm me and I can get you details.

Thanks for the info Triton, but I'm currently running a Johnson Fastrike. I hear that parts may start getting hard to find for these old OMC engines since Evinrude closed the door.

Y'all ever wonder why it's harder than heck to find dyno readings of marine engines? I'd sure like to see a 4 stroke compared to a 2 stroke on a dyno.

I went out of my way to avoid owning a 4 stroke. Bought my new Bullet a few years early than I wanted to make sure I got one of the last 2 strokes Mercury sold... That being said I do have a 4 stroke on our pontoon which is fine for a lounge boat... Dan

I'll keep my old 2 stroke until they make us go to electric motors for boats. Dang new green deal is gonna kill us all.
