Don't push your luck David. My grandfather taught me a very powerful cajun incantation. Just ask the video guy. He went 6 months without catching a decent fish last time he demeaned me grin

Haha!! Thanks for the warning!
Quick story: I was 8yrs old fishing with my grandfather. We came home with a cooler full of white bass and I proceeded to tell everyone about how many I caught (leaving very few to have been caught by my grandfather). He pulled me aside and told me this: “David, did you know that your grandmother used to love to fish.” I said, “No.” He continued, “Oh, and she was a great fisher-woman. But one problem... she counted fish too much. And each time we would go fishing she would come home bragging about how many fish she caught... David, did you know, I don’t take your grandmother fishing anymore...” This 8yr old understand exactly what he was saying. So J-Moe, thanks fo the reminder! To my recollection, your fly-rod was bent quite often!
It’s always fun on the water if you ask me smile

Is WB bite/schooling early AM, late AM, afternoon or PM?
Also, is road over dam open all the way to Welch Park?

Road across the Dam won’t be open until mid summer.

I stopped by welch after i caught all my white bass last time i was there and you can see them doing construction by the dam @JILAS. So I'd assume that it will not be open for a while. You can easily go to welch if you go into downtown of Somerville and just take a left (if coming from the south) or right (if coming from the north) on 6th or 7th street (i think) and it will dead end pretty much at Welch. Regardless...If you are a bank fisherman, now is your time to catch them. I'll be at big creek tonight to get the early morning start if anyone would like to join. Good luck fellas.

First-time poster and new to Somerville and white bass. Went out early Tuesday morning. Headed straight to Welsh. Fished 60 yards from the waders and went 20 minutes without a bite while watching the bank fisherman tear it up. Enough of that. Moved maybe 200 yards laterally where there was a good break between waders and fished shallower. Bingo! 6 fish in 12 casts in water depths less than 5 feet. Then wade fisherman push me out. I’m cool with it! Retreat back to deeper water (7-10 feet) with no success and then the bite dies. it’s now approximately 7:45 am.

Decided to go looking for greener pastures and find a nice rocky point with no bank or boat fisherman. Anchor up and right on que it’s a feeding frenzy. Over next hour, probably caught 30 more WB on whatever I wanted to throw. Silver spoon was money but for fun tried jigs (medium success), spinners (medium low) and top water at the end (1 nice catch). Then it quieted down and I actually started to hear the soft splashing of the shad on the rocky banks. I couldn’t hear that from Welsh but there is no mistaking it when you see it. I went on to find other areas with the shad spawning but it took a more prominent point with nearby deeper water for the WB to be there.

Yesterday - weather more favorable than today. Only saw 2 birds working but identified schools of fish. Fished 7-2pm & caught ~35.
Today - Cold (43) & N wind ~12-15mph. However, good groups of bird working (~7am-9am) off points.& humps. Fished 7-noon & caught ~20 - cold & tired of fighting wind.

Thanks for the report. That wind has wooped me pretty good the last couple of trips. At least you found and caught fish. I just got a sore elbow and shoulder grin
