Tied direct for 15 years with no issues, but I have found a saltwater double cross lock snap that I use for lures that weigh over 3/4 of an oz. I have used them on very large lipless crankbaits, 6XDs, and 10XDs also.

If you get these, get them in the smallest size

—I think the smallest size has 140lb breaking strength

These snaps would overpower and affect the action on smaller lures

Haven’t found a smaller snap that I have confidence in, yet; but, I find myself getting less particular about tying direct every time now that I wear readers on the water.

I use snap swivels on cranks and have no problem with them.

On a rattle trap style bait like he is throwing, not sure it matters. That is a fast moving bait, a little extra hardware will not scare the fish. The clip or swivel likely lets the bait have a little more action.

See you on the lake and have a great day!
