What fillet knife do you guys use? I have a Rapala heavy duty, and it’s been the best one I’ve owned up to this point. Now the blades keep getting stuck in it. I’ve seen a bunch of people with bubba knives, but the have mixed reviews.

Just got my first Rapala from Walmart last week and love it. I’ve got an old General Electric that still works great and does the job. Tried a new Hamilton Beach about three weeks ago, it sucked in many way. So, I returned it to Walmart and got the rapala. Wished I’d have done that years ago. Motor is plenty powerful enough and makes filleting a breeze. I’d highly recommend it. It cleans ‘em to the bone.

There was an entire thread on this subject at some point.

Couple options:

You can get some American Angler Pro Saltwater Blades off Amazon they will work in the Rapala.

I bought a Bubba Blade kit that comes with two batteries, 4 sets of knifes, charging cord and carrying case.

I wanted to see what all the hype was about.

I own both and I do love my Rapala. No complaints.

The winner for me once you use it is the Bubba Blade Electric Knife. I like the 9" E-Flex in the kit.

It has been great.

Like anything fishing it's personal.

I like them both.

I seem to grab the Bubba Blade first when I am going to clean fish.

Good Luck with whatever you decide to go with.

Here is the Bubba Blade kit that I bought:

These are the Saltwater (Shark Blades) I use with my Rapala.

Bubba Blade here, but I haven’t had it long enough to know if it’s gonna last. I do like it though, now just see if it’s gonna hang in there.

I bought the Bubba kit from Amazon tike Hogon mentioned and must have gotten a lemon because I tried all the different blades and it would almost stall out on the smallest crappie. I returned it and got new blades for my Rapala.

I have tried many different brands over the last few decades and I use a black and decker electric knife. You can get it at Walmart for $15. I have used them to filet 1/4 pound bluegill for bait as well as to filet 200-pound sharks. They cut through redfish and red snapper well. After 100s of fish they will burn out, but at $15, I just carry an extra so I always have a new one available. The only thing I don’t like about them is that they do not have a pointed blade.

I totally agree. I'm on my second one and have a backup ready. Really like the offset blades and actually think they do a cleaner job than the expensive brands. I have two American Anglers (one blue and one orange) hanging on the wall and I hate the blades

Wow!

JD I would say you definitely got a bad unit.

I have nothing, but good things to say about both the Rapala and the Bubba Blade Lithium Ion.

The blades I use and prefer are the 9" E-Flex blades.

I have not tried the Bubba Blades on the Rapala, but they should work.

I actually bought a Bubba Blade Lithium Ion as a gift for one of the Lake Fork Guides that fishes 7 days a week on Fork. He has had the Bubba Blade Lithium Ion for 6 months now and he says he absolutely loves it.

I would definitely recommend having Bubba Blade look at your unit.

Sorry that happened to you.

As I stated previously all things fishing are personal and do what works best for you.

I have had a positive experience to date and no complaints.

Sorry that happened to you JD.

No doubt you got a bad unit.

Hope you give them a try again sometime in the future.

I've got the corded Bubba Blade. That thing is a beast. Best I've used. Caveat that I haven't used the American Angler.

All the bad reviews i've heard on the Bubba Blade are with the cordless version. I've seen several reviews where they get stuck "on". Haven't had that issue with the corded version.

The Bubba blade is hands down the best electric knife I've ever owned.
I've had mine for 3 years. The blades are still as sharp as ever. To date, I have not sharpened the blades.
I filet a lot of crappie.
I have the corded version.
It was the best Father's Day gift ever!
