I’m the guy that released the 14.9 on Toledo Saturday. I had heard of the Sharelunker program, but the only thing on my mind at that time was trying to keep her alive so I released her. I hooked her in the roof of the mouth, but she was bleeding a lot so my primary objective was to get her back in the water ASAP. I didn’t have the TPWD Hotline number handy and I had no idea where the nearest holding tank was. I later found out that Fin and Feather has certified scales and a holding tank, but it would have taken me at least 30 minutes to idle out of where we were and navigate a rough lake to get there. I do regret missing out on a free replica mount and the $1000 in swag, but she swam off from the boat strong and the sight of that is something that I’ll never forget.
Advice to others: save the Sharelunker Hotline number in your phone so they can talk you through next steps for when you catch your 13lber. When you land a fish that big, you’re not really thinking clearly.
