I’ve caught several I thought were over 13...until I put them on my certified scales. And I’ve disappointed a few people when their cheap scales said they were double digit, and my certified scales said 8 pounds.

I know a guy who caught one last week and 2 last year. All on east texas lakes. Obviously he don't post about it but it's all on video. Back when falcon was prime it happened alot

I did the math a few years back and estimated somewhere around 230 13 lb fish were caught annually world wide. I used linear regression models and a few assumptions, but I think it's a decent ballpark number.

I know of 2 a couple of years ago where the two anglers didn't think the lake could take any more pressure, More about that than the health of the fish by the film on how they were handled.

I would say at least 50%. The problem with fish dying that go into the program is not the way TPWD handles them. It is the handling prior to being picked up by TPWD that stresses the fish. Most of the time the fish has been hung from a metal hook under the gills and weighed on at least four scales. Then 15 people hold it for a pic long before the TPWD truck gets there. The fish arrives at Athens in fair to poor shape and then it goes through the stress of spawning (which kills a fair amount naturally).

Looked like a dozen or more of them that weighed 6-7+ on the table.

I likened it to people in the old days riding around all over town showing off their 8-10 point buck with it strapped across the hood.
