I no longer have any firearms since I sold them to gunshow Bob back in 2018.

The tactical advantage argument always makes me pause. Tactically speaking, both open and concealed offer different advantages and weaknesses. The tactical advantage of concealed carry comes from a situation in which you can get to cover or hidden enough where you can draw your weapon unseen, and then ambush the bad guy.
But in a situation where a bad guy is coming at you and you have to get to your gun before they get to you, then open carry is by far the best option.
Either way, it is imperative that you practice your draw. Practice sitting, standing, and from a prone position on the floor. Practice drawing and acquiring a target. Practice drawing and squeezing off an aimed shot. Practice practice practice.
If your gun is double action, the laser snap caps make a great practice/training tool. After I get the muscle memory of drawing my gun unloaded, I wonder if there are shooting ranges okay with me practicing drawing my weapon and firing down range at a target If the gun ranges give you any grief just come on up here and do it at the farm. If you shoot yourself practicing your quick draw I'll tell the authorities that you looked despondent when I talked to you. Better not shoot my dogs though. It's ok if you shoot the neighbor's dog though.
Advice? Wise men don't need it. Fools won't heed it.

For those that have taken the course and conceal carry into places that don't allow guns. Are you worried about going to jail if you're caught? Well, in real world terms, you'd most likely get a trespass warning i.e. told to leave. If the property owner wanted to prosecute, it would be a class C misdemeanor. If you were stubborn and refused to leave, it's a class A misdemeanor. I wouldn't want either one on my record. Yep. But in the 21 years I have had my LTC and been carrying concealed at most times, I have never, ever, been asked if I had a firearm on me, nor have I been subjected to a search. Like Zeek says, if by chance you printed or shirt lifts and someone sees it, they would likely ask you to leave. I generally don't patronize any business that prevents me from LEGALLY carrying concealed. Sprouts can shove it, they have nothing I need in there anyway. As Pappy told me one time: "I'd rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6.

I see no advantage to open carry. The bad guy is always going to have a leg up on you, as they are the ones who will be drawing and firing first. Said another way, the odds you wind up with a big bullseye on your back far outweighs the half a second you might gain in draw time.
Also, I've got to believe any bad guy intent enough to pull and use a fire arm has given the whole situation considerable thought and is not going to be deterred by seeing a firearm. Particularly in Texas, they have to assume going into about any situation they are likely to encounter a gun. All open carry would do is let them know who to shoot first.
I have an LTC, but my main strategy is to avoid sketchy areas/situations. I find manners and little forward thought on hazard assessment go a long way.

The smart thing to do is get a gun that looks like something else. A gun that looks like binoculars could be openly carried around your neck. You could aim it at someone and they'd think you were just checking them out.
