When catfish start hitting my carp slayer fly, summer is not far away.

A while back on Joe Pool there was a day when there were thousands of yellow grasshoppers floating and little 12” channel cats were going nuts on em. Wish i had a fly rod at the time. How many people can say they legitimately caught catfish on dry flies?

How many people can say they legitimately caught catfish on dry flies? Oh baby, that sounds like fun. Situations like that are the reason I often carry 20 different types of rods with me when I fish. A quick run back to the van has resulted in many record catches over the years. You just never know what opportunities will develop during a fishing outing.

I've had a few day's on the flats were hoppers were getting blown into the water. The cats were cruising, looking for them. It was'nt dry fly fishing but i've caught a lot of them site casting.

This guy thought he was a tarpon. He hit my carp slayer fly, rocketed out of the water and did a full gainer.

I poled Shannon Drawe up on this one. A lot of fun in a foot of water.

Nice catfish, all. The lake I live on is infested with channel catfish. I get them on woolly buggers and balanced leeches, but don’t generally see them first like in sight fishing. Gafftop are pretty willing to take a fly. Look for birds diving and nervous bait in the surf. Even the dreaded hardheads aren’t immune to taking flies.
