What does one a those AGM batteries cost anyway? Plus a new Minn Kota charger?

I just put a Duracell 31 in my boat last week. It was $200 at Sam's Club. Just replaced my charger because I had a bank quit working. 3 bank Minn Kota pc was $350 I think

I have the Minn Kota charger , AGM cranking battery and led acid trolling motor batteries and no problems. I do not have Interstate batteries. I have never had good luck with those. I buy batteries made by Deka.

Great battery, especially for the price.

AGM is not a gel battery. They lost me at that point

I must have missed where they said that..

Guys I know it was a long video, but I felt there was good info throughout, and things I didn't know throughout and correct it is all their experience with doing this everyday. Nitroslim is also correct, AGM are not technically gel batteries, however if you do a little research you will find it is common to refer to them as gel batteries as that is generally a catch all phrase for non-wet cell batteries, so if we had gone down that rabbit hole the video would have been even longer. So hopefully some guys learned something, and guys that know batteries really well don't have to watch, i get it. I continue to try to post videos that are not "how to rig a carolina rig" or "look how this guy got to close to me fishing".... just trying to put content out that is interesting and about things not all of us know or are aware of.

Ken, when you go back and charge your AGM with the little charger is your other charger on? Does that matter? You don’t need the other charger disconnected or anything special like that?

Watched this video and checked my Minn Kota charger and it was set wrong. Set it right and it charged for 30 mins on my AMG battery. I rate this video 10 out of 10

I think his wording was he couldn't vouch for other chargers and knew the MK would differentiate battery types.

NOCO says:
Quote
Suitable for Wet Cell (Flooded), Gel Cell, Calcium, AGM, Enhanced Flooded Battery or any Maintenance-Free Battery

The newest NOCO GenPRO chargers say:
Quote
Charging modes - Independently charge and control each battery bank with selectable charging modes - including 12V, 12V AGM, 12V Lithium, and 12V Repair Mode - for all types of lead-acid and lithium-ion batteries.

I agree completely. I was in full-blown technical cringe mode through most of that video. I'm neither pro nor con on DeltaVolt, but will say their charger in question (Professional Series, 15A per bank) certainly is not a "trickle charger" - the stated reason given for why there was the declaration of a charging issue. The proper way to check for full charge is with a calibrated voltmeter after a charger has been disconnected and the surface charge depleted. I never saw this in that video.

I have a not-in-use Professional Series Quad Pro charger and two AGM Group 31 batteries. I also have two different generations of another brand charger. I may test all three on the AGMs and make DMV measurements just to see what I discover.

For those who may be curious, smart chargers monitor the voltage on the battery to assist in proper charging. Attaching TWO activated chargers to a single battery simultaneously (which seems to be the case in the video as presented) is going to confuse the h3ll out of both chargers. Each charger will see the other charger's output, something not at all expected by the engineers who designed the chargers. There's no way we can predict what effect that might have on each charger's response to the presence of the other.

You bet it matters, and it will have an effect of some nature because a smart charger output responds to sensed voltage on the connected battery.

There was a lot of other info. Of course this is America and you don't have to watch it.

I've always had questions and even posted threads on here about mixing batteries/types of batteries and matching chargers. This did answer some of those questions especially the relationship to AGM batteries and trickle chargers.

It might answer questions about AGM and "trickle chargers"....but, saying a Professional Series Quad Pro charger is a "trickle charger" is the most humorous statement I've heard in a long time. Note that a "trickle charger" is one that has (only) a low amperage current to keep a static battery from discharging. The amperage for this? Milliamps, so a fraction of one Amp. The charge current for the Professional Series chargers? A full 15 Amps when in bulk charge mode, the name typically given to the first step in a programmed (smart) charger.

Frank I have left the other one on as well, however that is just me doing that, I don't have anybody that knows their stuff telling me that's ok (remember I grew up in Arkansas!!!!)
