We managed to get a site booked at mccown valley. It is a long way from the river merge where I wanted to fish. Being in a kayak i will not be paddling that far. I will try my luck where I camp, and across the lake in the shallower water. I need to learn my new garmin striker 4. Maybe I will get lucky and find some secret brush piles.

Hamm Creek park campsites open back up on Thursday. Got a site booked for Friday and Saturday nights. Hoping we can find some fish. It's been years since I fished the river. Used to slay the sandbass this time of the year on Roadrunner. Our plan is to go upriver as far as we can and start working back down. Aboit 10 years ago, the best fishing was all the way up where u couldn't get any farther by boat. They were stacked in the deeper holes.
Anyone know if that's still a viable plan?

Yep, that's always a good spot (aka Spring Creek) when the sandbass have been running for a while. I heard from a buddy last week that big sandbass were still below Hamm Creek. I'll be able to tell you more after tomorrow.

No, I think you'll have to launch at Hamm Creek and move up river. My son and I fished all afternoon and it was a grind. We probably caught 25-30 but nothing in large groups. They were really spread out and random. One of those days when you see a guy at the boat ramp who says "you shoulda been here yesterday" kind of days. I will say that the quality of the fish that we caught was really good though.

Well we spent Thursday-Saturday there and found some fish. We launched at Hamm and caught fish down and up but the fish were very scattered. We caught the bigger fish on bends and deeper holes. Had a great time but it seemed we were a week or so early.
Blue skeeter we probably saw you there, we were in a white skeeter with power poles.
Good luck everyone!
