1/3 the price of the Honda and I have no regrets buying it. cheers

In fact the Predator engines are a Honda copy (what i heard). Some of HF's stuff is pretty good even though the ChiComs built them.

Hook up your A/C, kitchen and bedroom and you are functioning with a 7500 w generator. No mess of extension cords running through your house.

I bet this takes off like wildfire after this is over.

My little 3500 is doing work. Just checked on her. Churning right along!

I've been lucky and haven't lost power, but I got the generator out of the shop and it's sitting on the front porch ready to go. When something like this happens, you start thinking and reading about what you can do to be better prepared. If you don't want to spend $10-20k on a Generac system, you spend about $1200-1500 on a transfer switch kit and a 7500 w generator and have enough working in your house to function.

I just ordered this one. All I need to do is run my fridge, a couple of heaters, and charge our phones and laptops. Might need to microwave some (no beans) chili. In the summer time, a window a/c unit and fridge. Oh, and pellet pooper when needed.

I've run a couple of the predator generator models with good luck so far. About the only advice I can offer is replace the sparkplug with a "real" brand like NGK and do an extended break in using some fixed loads like 500w halogen lamps or electric motor. You don't really want to use them straight out of the box if you can help it. Change the oil during the run in an extra time or two also. Not specifically on the generators, but we've found various bits of trash on a bunch of the Honda clone engines from HF and Northern. They seem to last just fine, but with only a screen in the smaller engines metal chips and other debris could cause a problem.

Anyone tried the Westinghouse generators? This one looks like a good match for the switch above.

Buying one now is like getting a tornado shelter after the storm passes by.

I get the need to be prepared, but what are the chances that this ever happens again? 1000/1 or less?

It was 72 years ago that it got this cold.

We lose power for 3-12 hours once or twice a year. It's not that much money for convenience in our case.

Yes the chances are slim, but there is that chance it will happen.

JP, check the noise level (dB) of the units you're interested in. I realize some may think this is a minor concern but we cranked up a Ryobi 6500 last night and it was beyond loud. My Honda 6500 has an auto throttle which helps with noise.
