A bit delayed in posting this, but though everyone would enjoy: At the end of October, my wife and I went out to our property to spend the weekend. When we got there in the afternoon, she went for a spin on her kayak on our 12-acre pond, while I did some chores around the barn. After about 15 minutes I heard her yelling from the far side of the pond - something about a big fish choking on a smaller fish. I replied with a 'no way' and a 'that's cool' and went back to my chores. She kept yelling after that, so I thought I better check it out. I hopped in my jon boat and motored across the pond, fully expecting to find a 3-4 pound bass having trouble swallowing a big bluegill, as I had seen this before. As I got closer it became clear that it was a lot bigger than 3-4 pounds. The bass on top of the water was 23-inches and approximately 9 pounds. I gently lifted her out of the water and noticed a large tail sticking out of her mouth. I used my pliers to extract a 13-inch tilapia! After a couple quick pics, I got her back in the water. It took five full minutes of moving her back and forth to get the water flowing through her gills, but she finally swam off. Sadly, the tilapia didn't make it... Bass do not own mirrors, so they have no clue what size they are, and therefore have no preconceived notion on what might constitute "too big to swallow" until they try it - sometimes with undesired results.
