Beautiful birds. A few years ago, one showed up in Central Park and made international headlines. I also have a buddy who is on a lease with a guy who shot one several years ago in the North Texas area. Would make an incredible mount and conversation piece.

Another nice one, that we get on our pond for about 1 week each year is the hooded merganser duck.

Thanks for posting! I wasn’t sure if I could put them very close together, I see you can. I have 2 houses and put them on opposite corners of my yard.

For everyone else if you do this, buy a steel pipe (1&1/2”) with threads on one end. Buy a plate that is threaded and has 4 bolt holes to attach to the bottom of the house. The weight of the house, nesting material, and a couple of ducks is a lot more than you would think initially.

Duck Hunter is going to Love us all!

Birds don't always follow the directions on social distancing. LOL

When I made a bunch of nesting boxes for different birds on my property I used this site for general information on box/hole sizes as well as how to place/spread them out. https://nestwatch.org/learn/all-about-birdhouses/

Look! Up in the sky. It's a bird. It's a plane. No, it's an EMP!

Mergansers are beautiful too, but I’ve heard they’re the worst tasting.

They are good divers. They go down to the bottom of our pond, about 20 feet when it's full.

Hooded Mergansers feed mainly on small fish, crayfish and other crustaceans, and aquatic insects; also some tadpoles, a few mollusks, small amounts of plant material.

Anything that eats meat (with the exception of pork) is usually something we won’t eat.
