This! Beat me to it.

My fishing buddy and I ran into some bad fog on I35 on the way back from Cedar Creek. We were starting to have the "pull over and let it pass" conversation when it finally got better.

Many, many years ago on Lake Murvaul a coworker and his fishing buddy were run over by another boat. If I remember correctly it was foggy and the other boat was on plane and went thru/over their boat. If it is bad foggy, I will wait till it lifts. If I am on the lake already, I will head back into a cove or timber to wait it out. I have been on Martin Lake hugged up tight to the back and could barely see the other end of my boat and hear boats running wide open. No way they could see another boat in time to stop.

Some can, and do, run much faster than they should - even without GPS. If you can get off the main trail runs, at least the fools running hard with GPS are less likely to run over you.

Stopping along a roadway has historically proven to be a very bad idea. Better to proceed slowly to a location where you can get well off the thoroughfare. Think take an exit and sit at a gas station.

I remember right after Fairfield opened, we were fishing a cove when a heavy fog rolled in. We sat till it cleared up some a copular of hours later. But we could hear boats running full throttle during the heaviest fog. We were actually scared to try and get back to the launch because of those boats.

A couple of years ago on Calivarious the route feature on my depth finder paid for it self. A fog rolled in and caught me a good ways from the launch and it was heavy enough I could not see the shore line. I was able to follow the route back.

What is wild about navigating blind is finding out where you really are as opposed as to where you think you are.

Worst lake fog I ever ran into was on Monticello on a cold still January morning when the power plants were running strong.

Happened to me so many times on Monti and in that thick wet air sound really travels. You would hear boats all over and sometimes clearly running on plane. It would pucker you for sure!

One thing I found many years ago is that it’s impossible to steer a straight course in dense fog by compass when you’re idling. You keep scanning all around for threats, especially when you’re hearing all the idiots running on the pad. They all sound like they’re headed straight for you. You glance diwn at the compass and notice you’re 10 or 15 degrees off of your heading. A chartplotter’s worth its weight in gold then. I recall fishing off a long tapering point one day in a dense fog. I was out of sight of the bank, throwing a deep crank up the slope. I heard a boat idling and eventually a bass boat popped out of the fog, a couple of boat lengths away. The guy asked where we were, and I told him. I pointed at my GPS chart and suggested that he invest in one. He told me he had one and it was showing him in the correct location. He just couldn’t bring himself to trust it in zero visibility.

Was out a couple of weeks ago with my neighbor, middle of Lake Palestine, We had been talking about losing sense of direction in the
fog. We live on the east bank , but when the fog lifted a bit , I could see my house due west, smile funny feeling
