It looks like the going rate for a striper guide at Texoma is $125.00 per person $375.00 minimum. Looking I see some guides doing trips for much less? Could one of you guy's that are charging less explain this to me? i guess I'm just confused

I guess I am confused as to what this is about

It is about why there is such a range in pricing? I see pricing from $70 per person with no minimum up to $500.00 minimum. What is the difference? Looking at facebook post It appears that the guys charging more are fishing everyday and the ones charging less are not. Am I getting more bang for my buck if I pay a $500.00 minimum? Are the guys charging less doing so because they are not as good? or less confident in there fish catching capability?

I can't speak for other lakes but the going rate around cedar creek lake is $350 - $400 for a 1/2 day trip for 2 people and an additional fee ($75 - $100) for additional people. You get what you pay for. There is no way I would have confidence in a guide that would accept a trip for $70 a person with no minimum.

If I'm choosing a guide especially on Texoma, I'm not looking for a bargain. I'm looking for a guide who fishes the style I like ( bait or lures) and then seeing what other say about how he produces/ teaches. My 2cents

Check into the guides recent results. Some new guys try to swing lowball prices to sway people their way and get established, and get some money coming in. If the results aren't there or they can't provide proof of recent success, I'd look elsewhere either way.

Good guides are not cheep! They work hard everyday to be "Good Guides" !

This is only my opinion- I’ve learned you usually get what you pay for on most things in life.
I charge somewhere close to that and the reason I do is because I have a very nice dependable boat, the absolute best electronics( to ensure me every option to put my customers on fish) I carry full guide insurance to cover me and my customers if there were to be a problem.
Every and any kind of tackle and rods for every application to again insure I have every tool to produce for my customers.
I’m on the lake a minimum of 5 days a week no matter if I’m guiding or not, I want to stay on the fish. I never want to miss 2 days in a row if I can help it. Things can change in that amount of time I want to be on their heels all the time!

As far as looking for a guide most have Facebook pages and will post trips, and I can assure you that if they are catching fish they will post and if not well.... that’s how we stay busy ,posting lots of good trips. It’s just how it works.

I can’t speak for other guides but as for me we fish a minimum of 4 hours(unless customer doesn’t want to) even if we limit. I’ll chase other species or catch and release.
If it’s tough fishing I’ll fish more than 4 hours and try to get our limit.

For me I love fishing and sharing my boat with good folks that enjoy fishing as well, yes its how I make a living but I do this because I love it.

I know a bunch of guides and they are some of the hardest working folks I know with amazing hunt and catching skills from years and years of practice and NONE of them are rich.

I don't want to come off as being too critical of question here; but if you think $375 for 3 people to fish with an experienced guide in a safe boat with real consistent results, then maybe a guided fishing trip isn't for you. $375 is a bargain when you consider that they get up in the middle of the night everyday to catch bait. They maintain a big safe boat, and put you on fish every time you go out, not to mention they clean your catch for you. I fish alone a lot, I have to catch bait, and do the work to put myself in a position to be successful. I enjoy a guided trip 4 or 5 times a year where I get to relax and let somebody else do the work. To me, they offer a great service at a good value. I recommend a good tip on top of what they charge.

As a guide myself I'll try to clear things up if I can. Several of you have made some really good points and they are all valid. The reason I charge what I charge is the same reason why most everything cost what it does. To put it simply it is a fair price for what the market will allow. Trust me I'm not getting rich but like anything else it has to be worth my time or I'm not going to do it. It is hard work and a lot of pressure to put people on the fish day in and day out. The fact is most people are just not willing to do what it takes or spend the money on the right equipment to catch them consistently. The reason for the difference in price from one guide to the next is as personal as it gets. During peak season most are really close. During the winter months it's tough to convince people to get on the boat regardless of how good the fishing is. For this reason you will see some guides drop their rates to get trips. Some of them may be just getting started or they may be established but for whatever reason they are in a bind and need those trips even at a lower rate. Everyone runs their busines a little different and that works for them. As far my business, if someone chooses to go with another guide over me because $25.00 per person than that's okay I stay plenty busy at my rate. As do most guides that are worth their salt. I get a few request to take out a single person and to drop my minimum of $375.00. Again I understand that's alot of money to go fishing and will do what I can to help you put togather a group that can help spread it around. It takes alot of money and time away from my family to provide everything I do for my customers. I can't promise that you will catch the biggest fish of your life or the most but what I can guarantee is that I will work my rear off to provide the best experience for you I possibly can. I will have the gear and the knowledge of the fish to make it happen. Fact is though it's still fishing and some days are just better than others. Sorry for the long post but I hope this helps.
