I found how to change the gps source but I cant find how to change the magnetic source. This guy is pretty knowledgeable about Lowrance stuff. If this isn't the correct version, check the rest of his stuff. https://youtu.be/Oh1YJUQeOxQ

I found how to change the gps source but I cant find how to change the magnetic source. It’s not labeled magnetic source, I think it’s under vessel or heading and the other is gps. (Been too long since I’ve had to set mine.)

In Data Sources under Vessel select Heading, and select Point-1

Change GPS Source to Point-1. Then go to map>orientation>heading up. Don't worry about where it puts your waypoints. This should get you set up correct. If you have any questions you can PM me or you can call Jones Trolling Motor Shop in Texarkana.

If you have any questions you can PM me or you can call Jones Trolling Motor Shop in Texarkana. I'm sorry, but you're not giving very good advice. His Point-1 is at the stern of the boat. He wants the map on the boat's displays to stop spinning. Accomplishing that has absolutely nothing to do with which GPS antenna is selected. By telling him to make the bow unit's GPS antenna be the one at the transom, you're introducing an additional waypoint location/repeatability error. The way you are telling him to do it, when the Point-1 is over a waypoint, the bow of the boat can be anywhere around a circle with a diameter of twice the boat's length! The GPS antenna for the unit at the bow should REMAIN the internal GPS antenna. What needs to happen is to set the magnetic sensor to the Point-1. n_texas_basser was correct: "In Data Sources under Vessel select Heading, and select Point-1". That gives the unit a compass, and THAT is what stops the map spin. For GPS antenna, the bow should remain set to internal. For console units (which use transom mounted transducers), set the GPS antenna to Point-1 because it's also at the transom where the transducers are. BTW, "heading up" has nothing to do with it stopping the map from spinning either - it's just a personal preference some prefer, and some don't. "Don't worry about where it puts your waypoints."? Really? Doing as you say can easily make waypoint certainty be within a 40 foot circle when doing it correctly could mean within an 8 foot circle (under ideal conditions).

Point 1-Bow Menu-settings-network-data sources-vessel-heading-Point 1 Data sources-GPS—all data (this device) by default will probably be auto (Point1) set scope to local
Point 1-Console Menu-settings-network-Dara sources-vessel-heading-Point 1 Menu-settings-network-Data sources-GPS-all data-Point 1. Change it from auto scope is local

LO419 has it right. Go to Vessel heading and select Point one will keep you from spinning. This it the single most important reason to get a point 1. Also set you heading extension to be on. Then you it will project a line in the direction the boat is pointing. That way you can go straight to a way point without having to drive over it and dropping a bouy.
Depending on where your Point 1 is mounted will depend on what you want your GPS input to come from. If it is at the rear of the boat near the rear transducer, then you want the GPS at the console to be the point 1. This should give you the most accurate waypoint position when you are marking way points on your console unit. If it is on the front of the boat then you would want the GPS position to be the coming from the console unit. This is because it is closer to the actual point marked.
On your bow unit, leave the GPS source the front unit if the Point one is at the back. otherwise when you mark a point from the front of the boat, your waypoint will be as much as 20 off because the point 1 is at the back. If your point one is at the bow then make the Point 1 your GPS source.
I hope all that makes sense... but to answer your original question... select the point one as your heading source on both units.

I forgot to say that on your vessel heading with the point 1 selected leave that set to global for both units

A friend of mine just got (2) Lowrance Pro Units a 12 & 16 there about to be installed are these units better than previous models concerning the "spin" ? The 16 will be flush mounted in the console and the 12 on the bow. The boat is a 24 ft Center console.

I would like to point out that "spin" has nothing to do with how "good" or "bad" a GPS locator is designed and built. When a unit is moving, it can calculate which way it is moving by looking at where you were as compared to where you are; it does this 60 times per second typically. By knowing this, it can keep the map in line with your direction of travel. When you stop moving, the process of comparing where you are vs. where you were no longer works very well. The tiny distance you may move is less than the margin of error, so the system becomes unable to give an accurate map orientation. A Point-1 accessory includes a magnetic compass. This works at rest or when moving, so the map orientation can remain stable. The magnetic compass can't be built into the GPS unit because electromagnetic interference generated by the electronics in the unit would render it useless. That's why the remote-compass accessory exists.
