Hey this city boy has a question sorta off topic of this off topic post but I'm curious...

..What is the point of barrel racing? That's not a "it shouldn't exist" statement disguised as a question, but a real question. In the bucking events in a rodeo they are demonstrating skills that are / were used to tame wild animals. Roping events demonstrate skills that are / were used to control or capture loose livestock.

...What cowboy / cowgirl skills are being demonstrated or practiced in barrel racing? Where or when in a working ranch would you use the skills demonstrated in barrel racing? While we are at it why do only women compete in it?

Real questions, no insult or inferences intended.

oh and congrats to the young lady, I bet she could fish circles around this old man for sure!

Thats a good question actually. Barrel racing they are demonstrating horseman ship skills and horse agility. As far as why do ladies do it I can't speak for it. Riley does it for the adrenaline rush and the bright lights.

Now the event that makes no since is bullriding. No direct ranching tie. Had to be 2 or more drunk cowboys daring each other.
