Didn’t know Mark personally, but very aware of his legendary status in the Texas fishing and outdoors community. Heartfelt condolences going out to all his friends and family.

True story
I went with Pack many times over the years. We were out fishing he was sitting in the drivers seat talking smack about why I hadn’t caught anything. We had about three small fish. I smarted off I was waiting on a DD. He smarted off there are ten pounders laying all around the boat. I said well if there are you catch one. He pickup a rod with c-rig and threw over next to a small tree reeled down set the hook. I am thinking you got to be kidding, he fought the fish a minute then reeled it in. We weight and measured it. 27” and 10.4#. He let the fish go and wrapped his rod back up and laid it down on the front deck and turn and said “ do you need anymore instructions” we laughed and he set down and I kept fishing. He was amazing on c-rig for sure. I can’t tell you how many times throwing a jig up in Birch when the water was low in the 2011-2012 range he would call which trees we would catch fish off of fish on each day. He didn’t miss it much for sure. I bet we caught between 10-15 over ten during that time frame. He was a really good big bass guide. He like having fun for sure

I went with him on my 50th birthday. He had just came out with the MPack Shad's. It was August 6th and it was somewhere around 105 degrees that day, we were sweating profoundly, with no wind. We were catching donkey's on a hump in 20 foot of water. Disco Violet magnum size MPack Shads weightless. It would take 30 seconds to get to the bottom. He caught (4) 10's and a 9 and all I could do was catch 5's, 6's and 8's. He would try to stop fishing. He kept telling me it's your birthday, you need to catch a double digit. I insisted he keep fishing as it was my birthday. We were laughing about it. Had to have caught over 30 fish that day over 5 lbs. And Carolina rig, he was the master. Don't think I ever saw him throw anything less than 3/4 oz weight, mostly 1 oz.
I posted the story and all the pictures the next day here, i'm not sure how to go back 6 years and find all the pictures and the post. A bunch of folks on here crucified him saying " a good guide would not have fished" he was only doing what I wanted him to do. He was fun to fish with.

I was talking with Jeff @ Fringe the other day..."really tough...Bill D then Tommy and now Mark".
There was a genuine sorrow in his voice...then he told me the story of the day he met Mark in 2005.
As I heard the stories.
Mark wanted a steak so we went to Saltgrass...we got out of his truck and I noticed Mark had a hole in his fishing shorts.
I enlightened him to it and he said "I don't care I'm hungry". "The best part of dinner wasn't that he was buying...it was watching him gnaw on his steak bone and the looks we got".
"In 2008 when Choke was still fishing good we discussed building a Bed & Breakfast close to the lake".
"The Bass & [censored] didn't happen...cause Mark's accountant didn't understand fishing only numbers".
