Went catfishing yesterday, did good with numbers, but no huge ones. 10.5 lbs was the largest. But noticed something I've never seen before. Huge numbers of birds bombing the water over feeding Sand Bass. I've seen the birds diving on schools before there. But, nowhere near the number yesterday. This literally rivaled anything I've ever seen on Texoma, and it went on all day from about 10:30 till I left at 4:30.
Like I said, I've seen them diving, but this was literally hundreds in each area, while hundreds of cormorants sat on the water to take in their share too. The first sighting I saw, there had to have been easily 4 or 5 hundred birds, and the water was boiling like when stripers feed.
Cool to see, I've just never seen it like that on Lake Worth. I know there are hybrids in there now too, maybe they have made the sandies more aggressive?

Went yesterday, and witnessed the same thing. Non stop massive amounts of birds all day long. Morning was nice, after about 10:30, wind was absolutely ridiculous.

I generally launch at the 820 bridge this time of year. Very few fish North of Goat Island. Heavy bird activity was from just East of the bridge, all the way to the dam. Follow the Cormorants, they'll take you straight to the activity, and are easier to see than the gulls, from a distance.

Wow!! Thanks for the heads up z289sec!!
Dennis, if you plan on going up there And need a deck hand, I would love to fish with you! We had actually planned a trip together a few years back and I had to take a rain check.

Me and Mason were there yesterday from 815 to sunset. Birds pounding the water early just east of the 820 bridge, dont know the lake but we checked on it anyway. Only saw bait, and allot of it. Didn't see anything that looked like a good school of fish, cormorants were working hard which is what I think was driving bait to the surface . At 4pm we parted with our professor and looked down towards the dam. Thousands of birds sitting on the dam, mostly cormerants. Didn't fish, only boat we saw was working a hump south west of the 820 bridge early on a large hump that favors the south side.
Bass fishing was good in my book, didnt fish for sandbass..

Nearly ALL of the fish in the lake are down from the airstrip to the dam. In the only parts of the lake that are over 15 ft. Get down in the 20 foot areas, and they're stacked like cord wood. And yes, bait is EVERYWHERE, on that end.
