i see rain between Giddings and Rockdale. let's hope it's enough to fill the lake.

It might help but likely will only set the stage for the next good rain event to have a positive affect on lake levels.
When the lake is two feet low or more from normal pool level the channels leading to the creeks are dry or very shallow.
It is possible that the Yegua will have a good push of flood water that will make passage up from the lake plausible for a few days.
Some of the early arriving males might make it into the creek on this rise and if the lake returns to normal level soon it's almost guaranteed to fill up with whitebass and crappie.
I think we should do the rain dance !

Raining cats & dogs in Austin this morning.

Just a little Nails creek adventure.. Late October 2016 after another high water event just like 2015. The lake had just come down to normal pool level a month earlier.



I hear autumn's call drawing me back to the creek where the wild things live. The "thump" is kind of addicting and stocking the freezer with plenty of crappie fillets gives me the best excuse ever invented. It takes considerable effort kayaking up into the creeks but the rewards are worth every burn, bite, cut, sting and sore muscle to find the peace and quiet nearer the heart of Mother Nature.

The rains we just received should bring some white bass up into the creeks. I live in the upper water shed for Yegua and we had 4 inches, not real sure how much run off water from these rains due to how dry everything was to begin with, but there are a few creeks that should be on the rise and whites should be going up them.

Well I wasn't aware that the lake was two feet below normal pool, so this rain will probably just set it up nice for the next rain we get, which I hope is soon. I have seen big females come up this creek as early as December, but the creek was flooded for several days with water out of the banks when that took place. We were on some good stringers up at Irwin bridge that year. But that was freak thing, it doesn't happen very often. Lets just hope the lake comes up from these rains we just received and in a month or two conditions become great for a good spawn. I can say this though, the white bass fever is getting stronger by the day at my house. I am itching to get out there and catch a few.

The lake has come up a smidge. And that's being generous. Disappointing as I thought the rain we got earlier in the week would have made a bigger impact.

Cedar creek at 125.

Oh wow, when did you take a picture of cedar creek? That is one of the creeks I was talking about that might possible have some fish in it.

Today. I went to the lake too, anyone know why is the dam road closed ?

Just an FYI, I know a few of you on here fish at the steps in Circleville. I went yesterday just to scout around some and the river looks to be in great shape for a white bass run this year. Plenty of flowing water in there right as you walk down from the steps. Didn't catch anything or see anybody catch anything but it's a tad early still.

2019 was a good year for the white bass spawn. Man did I put some fish in the freezer that year. Last year I kept 12 to clean and fry up when I got home, the rest I caught and released for another day. My freezer is almost out of fish, so this year needs to be a good one so I can restock it. The way I prep my fish allows them to last up to two years, after that I like to get rid of them, give them away so I can restock with new fresh packs. But I always label my fish, so I know when and where they came from. My fish are like vacuum packed with no air pockets. I figured out a process to create this vacuum system using 1 gallon zip lock baggies about fifteen or twenty years ago.

Thanks for the pics of Cedar Creek, BBFISH. Some of the smaller creeks don't have a very large water shed so not too surprised with the lack of water there. It's mainly the Yegua that fills the lake back up. I'm guessing there wasn't a whole lot of runoff from this last rain. The ground was super dry so probably a lot got absorbed into the ground. If we can start getting some good rains back to back we'll be back in business.
