That pretty much sums it up.

The banks are going to get paid for it.

there were pell grants which did not have to be paid back and banks made the student loans prior to the govt. takeover, the stafford loans were goober backed all others were direct to the banks and they did their thing as far as handing out money went.

govt. only started backing all loans in 2010, just like health insurance they got their foot in the door and now are going to screw up the system and a lot of taxpayers.

The banks are going to get paid for it.

So who does that leave to pay? Oh No! It's the taxpayer, cause that's the only place the government can get money.

Makes total sense to me.
A $100,000 wouldn’t cover the first year at an Ivy League school.

Agree with most, you borrowed it so you pay it back. Lots of life altering decisions were made because of student debt. I for one did not go to college and went right into the work force while all my friends went to Texas Tech or ATM. My parents didn’t have that kind of money and I knew what would happen on the other side of graduation.

Still feel like I made the right decision for me.

True but you can certainly understand the point he’s trying to make Lee.

Big college degrees and some are still to stupid to see that they will still be paying for that loan. There will be more "free" college for them to pay for with their taxes. If we are going to forgive loans, let me go buy a boat, truck, house, and all the toys I want and let's get that paid for.

Undergraduate and graduate degrees are investment decisions and there is a wide spectrum of ROI depending on the field of study and the school. The best long-term solution to the student loan problem is to get the government out of the business and make the schools a guarantor to the bank, so if the student defaults the school is on the hook to the bank. That will force the schools to quit offering worthless degree programs.

Restructure their individual loans (interest rate, length of time to pay, etc.). Loan forgiveness is not the answer and will not be acceptable to the majority of Americans.
