I use these 8.3 ratio, they have a longer handle, I swap out the round knobs for flat. 5.4oz https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Team_Lews_Hyper_Mag_Speed_Spool_SLP_Casting_Reels/descpage-MAGL.htmlYou can flip the thumb lever up if you so choose with your thumb while flipping. You can get these on ebay listings or by calling american fishing legacy and asking for a deal usually for $209 each. I like this reel a lot, I only own these reels and Steeze reels. The Steeze are smoother, but not capable with the T wing to work well w 20# floro or at all with braid in my opinion. I do fill it some with mono and tape that off so I can re spool and only use about 100-110 yards. On the part about the T wing not working well with 20# flouro is that straight flouro or flouro to braid leader knot ? Can't answer your question but I can tell you the t-wing does not work well with knots. Not sure why anyone would have a leader long enough so that the knot gets to the reel. I back my reels and I have to engage the thumb bar and roll the knot in then start reeling again.

If you lift up on the cast button on a Lews or MOST properly functioning reels, the spool will still not engage until the handle is turned. I just finished a major disassembly and cleaning of all my Lews, Steez, and Shimanos. None of them are capable of what y’all are talking about. There is two springs and a “sawblade” looking gear that are designed to keep the spool release from simply engaging. The saw blade looking gear kicks back the part that is held in place by those two springs. The release thumb knob thing will press down and not return, even if you physically lift it, back to the upward position.
The only reel I have seen that had that ability was a $99 quantum. And it had a switch that had to be flipped to allow it to happen. ALL of mine work as I already said.... I use it when Im drinking beer while fishing. I doubt Ive got 20 bad steez or 15 bad lews hypermag reels but I guess its possible. Ill go make you some video it should take all of 3 minutes...

The t wing steez doesnt cast as well with tatsu 20 lb line as the lews hyper mag reels. The accuracy and distance go down with that heavier line on them especially when I tried to use up some abraz x I had. I finally threw that 1000 yard spool in the trash. It also doesnt work with braid for frog fishing at all.

I’m at the lake now. My Steez reel does like yours, as does my Lews LewsCustomLite. But, my Shimanos and Lews Team Lews ProZ’s release button just flops till I turn the handle.
So, more like 50/50. And the Lews Custom release knob is too close to the rod handle to get my big fingers under the knob. Lol.
Saying that, I always cast/flip/pitch with my right hand and my reels are left handed. So I actually have never tried to ham the release closed. It’s not a natural movement for me.
Eat. Sleep. Fish.

If there is one thing I have learned from joining fishing forums. Most people over think and over complicate things. Just cast or pitch and turn the handle. It's not that hard
