Any other reels out there comparable to this one made specifically for pitching and flipping but less than $250?

The P&F also casts very well. Line capacity is the only thing that might not work for certain techniques.

The Team Lews Lite MGL blows it away, and is less than $250 when Tackle Warehouse has a sale. It is the lightest reel Lews has ever made, and like the flip-n-pitch type reels, it holds about 50 yards of 65lb braid.

It’s more comparable to a Shimano Alderbaran(sp?)

Alright thanks. I’ll keep an eye for a sale for either one.

So when flipping, do y’all keep the reel on “free” so it pays out smoothly? I played around and tried to flip with some reels I currently have and it didn’t really work lol

I have this reel. I set the brakes at 3 clicks out of 27 and keep the spool tension knob so there is a tiny bit of side to side play. Very loose.

You can easily bomb cast this reel with a frog to the end of the spool this way without a backlash. If you wanted to.

I use these 8.3 ratio, they have a longer handle, I swap out the round knobs for flat. 5.4oz

You can flip the thumb lever up if you so choose with your thumb while flipping.

You can get these on ebay listings or by calling american fishing legacy and asking for a deal usually for $209 each.

I like this reel a lot, I only own these reels and Steeze reels. The Steeze are smoother, but not capable with the T wing to work well w 20# floro or at all with braid in my opinion.

I do fill it some with mono and tape that off so I can re spool and only use about 100-110 yards.

If it were me... I'd try to find a Shimano Castaic... They're no longer made and hard to come by, but they're best flippin and pitchin reel ever made... And a lot cheaper than $250... Dan

Most of my reels are Shimano and as an avid flip/pitch guy I have tried many different reels from Shimano, Lew's, Abu etc and find the Tatula Elite F/P reel to be unmatched. Period! [Linked Image]
