Friday's weather was spectacular and I had the good blessing of having the Mepps Master joined me from 11am to 530 and we had a blast. We only fished 3 structures (cloud, sun, wolf) and all graphed good fish with wolf holding the mother of mother load. Fish were very finicky again and only wanted smaller mepps #2, bigger lures were mostly ignored. Will let DC detail in on how he worked the #2 with various tactics.

Catching depth between 15 to 19 fow, water temp 75f, wind variables N then E then West 0 to 7mph with clear blue bird skies.

We boated 112 sandies mostly mags up to 17", had 4 big hibbies pulling drags and managed to net 3 in, all solid 5 lber class hibbies. Of course fishing catching machine the Mepps Master caught 70% of the fish and making it look way easy! Lol

Here are some pics for the report. Fyi, DC is 6' 3" with huge hands so the 5 lber looks more like a 2 lber lol.


Fish were so thick i snagged one on the fin lol. As you can see the fish are feeding on 1" shad that matches the mepps #2 blade that DC has been preaching about in late summer to early Fall.

Nice post, Todd. It was a blast. Even using the small #2 Mepps, fish were reluctant to bite. At Sun Point they were so finniky at a couple of spots, with tons of fish showing on sides scan, they just would not take anything - not even 2s. We tried various presentations: pulling Mepps sideways, pulling it up, making longer cranks on reel, jig and then crank. When we got to Wolf the technique in my video did the trick - jerk start and keep reeling slowly 4 turns of the reel. Was catching fish on most casts this way the last hour. IMO, the shad at Sun were so small that #2 was too large a bait. Mepps makes a #0 and #1. Thse might be worth trying.

Goes to show everyone, the proper technique will entice a strike from even the pickiest of predators. Moon phase problems affect me because I haven't perfected the DC slam dunk !! I am not too old to learn.
