first day back in the truck from days off, week later those of us with hazmat endorsements were getting briefed from state troopers.
for a couple of yrs. there was a threat of an empty tanker or dozen or hazmat loads being jacked and used as bombs.
weird times for sure.

I was then an active duty Marine Gunnery Sergeant walking into Headquarters USMC - HQMC - (then located at Arlington Hall - Blue arrow). The red arrow was the flight path of AA Flt 77. I heard it swoosh by above me just as I was about to enter HQMC. Then I heard the explosion and ran toward the Pentagon where I witnessed the smoke and flames. It turned into a very long day for me (and the rest of the country). I was in a special, Joint-Service unit at that time. An unconventional one. 10 days later my team and I landed in Islamabad, Pakistan and 3 days later we traveled to Peshawar, Pakistan to assist in the interdiction of any Al Qaeda elements attempting to flee Afghanistan (they knew the U.S. would be coming) in order to seek safe haven in Northern Waziristan. Many of them quickly learned Northern Waziristan provided no safe haven for them. I've since retired from the Corps but continue to teach my tradecraft to the newer generation of service members as as contractor. Semper Fi. [Linked Image]

Pouring concrete on the side of a mountain in Jefferson CO. Didn't have cell service and didn't find out about anything until the last truck driver told us around noon.

I was sitting at the breakfast table drinking coffee with my wife and getting ready to leave for work. I went nowhere and spent the rest of the day glued to the TV. I did leave the house for a short while to find a small flag to fly from my truck.

Thank you for your service Bassnhog, sir!

Was in Austin at the girlfriends apartment, getting some sleep before I had to go to work that night. Was quite shocked when she came home for the day (she worked in a govt office) and I heard the news. Mom was blowing up my phone, knowing I was sleeping. Still have the news papers from that day.

Watching history unfold on the TV in my company's boardroom and trying to get a call through to one of my staff that was in Manhattan that day. He was fine, but got stuck there for three days.

I was at work, the guy in the parts room stuck his head out and said his wife just called and a plane hit a building in NY. As the morning went on the details came in. I left and went home to watch on TV. Man what horrific day for our Country.

Thank you for your service Bassnhog
