I heard a story from an "old timer" about killing big bass fishing in 60ft+ water by reeling them in too fast and the pressure change killed the fish almost instantly. I try to keep fish alive for the next person unless they are crappie or catfish I've caught some really deep fish and never had one die "almost instantly". Honestly have never had one die in my possession from barotrauma. I have become very proficient with a fizz needle. The reason for the italics is because I know it is possible that a fish that I caught that deep had delayed mortality, but I'm not aware of it.

Deep clear water they will suspend in the tops of the trees in 60โ. Count down a big swimbait and see what happens.
I rarely fish deeper than 25โ but early this summer we found some bigs in 40+ on T-Bend. They werenโt all on bottom but caught them on Jigs and big worms.
