Ok I know itโ€™s hotter than hades out there but hereโ€™s my question. My grass is stressing out right now because of the heat. Can I throw enough water on it to keep it green or is the heat just to much right now? My grass is in full blown sun most of the day. Iโ€™ve noticed that yards with more shade are not looking as stressed.

Staying on a regular watering schedule, only mow every third week and it will be fine. It will be a few more weeks till it will start to green up.

Maybe....I had good luck with my St Augustine at the lake when I would water starting at around 8:00 p.m. until Midnight....I'd water each area 45 minutes to an hour and then move the sprinkler. Darn near walked straight into a doe one night around midnight. I was watching for copperheads and got about 2 inches from the deer when I stopped....scared us both. You may also try to water very early in the morning, before the sun comes up...next week is supposed to be a little cooler, so hopefully that will help.

Full sun. I try and mow every 4 days. Went 7 last time and got a few scalp marks. Putting down 1/2โ€ water every 3-4 days. No major stress issues. My line domination is strong. I need to moisturize.

Glad this thread came up. I just bought a new house(haven't moved in yet) how long after the sod is laid down before you are suppose to mow? Any additional care info
anyone has with new sod is greatly appreciated since this is the 1st time I've dealt with new sod.

I raised my mower up one notch and keeping that little bit of additional length made a world of difference. I also increased my watering frequency to 3x week from 2.

I have a big problem with too much shade in half of my backyard I'm sure. No grass will grow under a couple of Big Pecan Trees. A Landscaper fella told me it was two things that cause this....too much water or too much shade. I'm sure it's the later. I have waiting until it cools off to seed it with Scotts Fescue, as the bag says the seed is for shady areas. Will see.

Scorched earth. The zoysia is holding up well, surprisingly heat tolerant. St. Augistine on the sides doing ok. But the bermuda is pitiful. Watering 10 minutes per station (9stations total), 3 times a week. Water bill was $250 last month, it will be higher this month for sure. Additionally spot watering and foundation watering with soaker hoses to try to maintain my $14K foundation repair from 2 years ago. Already have about a 2" gap in spots.

I got sod web worms this week. Got my back yard pretty good. Will be putting down a liquid insecticide this evening. Hate those things.

Talked to my yard guy Friday and he said itโ€™s bad in my neighborhood this year.

Don't over water the foundation. Better to fill in with dirt.
