Although we didnt' target largemouth during this time of the year, I employ the teachings of Don Harper (breaking down lakes), to find whitebass in deep water pattern in the wintertime. Wow, is Don right on! What a pleasant surprise to catch 5 LMB including these 2 lunkers yesterday at Stillhouse Hollow. I mainly fish with spoons and soft plastics to catch whitebass, hybrids, and stripers; but Don's teachings and theory applies to most freshwater patterns, just at different depths.
We hit one area (#16 from the map), and got onto Whitebass steadily; finding plenty of bait and Whitebass. We caught over 100 keeper whitebass (only kept 6 for Clint's dinner), and these two (6 and 7 pounders, plus a 4 pounder) in 50’ of water. Steady action all morning on soft plastics, and went to spoons when they got more aggressive once the wind picked up. Of course, LVS was critical in figuring out what they were interested in as well as thumping them in.
My three personal best fish have been caught with Don's process, the last 2 trips yielding 7.5# and 7# in the winter time. Catching them this deep offshore is new to me... Tim
One 10-pounder is better than ten 1-pounders; but 100 1-pounders is ok too! If this kind of stuff floats your boat, be a subscriber to my youtube Channel: www.youtube.com/SkunkedAgain Get exclusive information by following SkunkedAgain Facebook page: www.Facebook.com/SkunkedAgain
I purchased Don's gps contour chip for a few lakes over the holidays. This was a pretty big investment but as I found out on Super Bowl Sunday it paid off. I love to fish but just don't have the time to spend on the water to break down a lake like Don has done. The information you get with this investment is unbelievably detailed for each spot. I can't imagine how long it took Don to put this together for every lake available but thank you for doing it..
I had not had a chance to hit any of the lakes yet that I purchased but decided since I live near Lake Lewisville it was time to get out. Super Bowl Sunday was a beautiful day, so it was a good time to get a few hours of fishing in before the game. The night before I read up on some of the areas I knew I wanted to fish near the ramp I would put in. The detailed write up lead to the spot I thought I could have some success and would fish thoroughly and what I would throw. For me, I thought it was an awesome day of fishing. I fished from 10:30 to 3:30 and caught 6 with my best 5 going a little over 16 lbs. My 4 best were 5.2, 4.0, 3.2 and 2.9. I'm a lousy winter time fisherman so this was outstanding for me. I just can't wait to hit more spots and it will probably take me 5 years or more to hit all the spots on the lakes I bought, if not longer for the amount of time I have to spend on the water. I can't wait to study more of the area's of Don's write ups and have more success. This is a must have investment if your like me, love to fish but not enough time to do what Don has done in breaking down a lake I would never have time to do. Thanks again Don Harper.
I was by myself so my pics hopefully show well on here.
I purchased a chip for Stillhouse and the information that Donald provided has had a positive impact on my success. This was the third fish over six pounds taken this February from areas that Donald flagged as holding large fish. This one went 7lbs 2oz.
My Dad and I fished Fork this past weekend. We focused on an inside bend next to a spawning area that Don had marked. These two bass came on back to back cast and were both less than an inch shy of being over the slot! Would have never focused on the area without the insight Don provided. Thanks for all you do Don!

Guess Il’ll give Don a plug. I bought a 2 lake chip about a month ago. I’ve only used it twice, but have had great luck. This morning I fished 3 of his waypoints on one main lake point on Choke Canyon and caught 15 or so fishing by myself. Most were 3-5lbs , and I had a 7 1/2 lb kicker. I bet 10 other boats stopped at that point while I was there and didn’t have any luck and left. There were only a couple of small spots on the point that were producing, and 2 of the 3 waypoints I hit seemed to be the ones.
I am defiantly not the best fisherman in the world. I also know it is important to research a lake before fishing it, but like most of you guys, I don't really have time. Besides that, I am no expert at knowing where the fish might be hanging out. I haven't gotten a chance to use them all yet, but I purchased 4 map cards for Mr. Harper and it has greatly improved the quality of fish I catch and my numbers! The lake I have fished most has been Joe Pool. I feel like I have been learning a lot from reading the mark ups and getting out on the water as well. See some of the pics bellow, these are all the biggest bass I have ever caught!
