Looking at the stocking and shocking reports for Marine Creek Lake in Fort Worth (part of the SAL program) says that few legal size bass are available to anglers. It also says there basically isn’t any food for them to eat. I think shad or other baitfish should be stocked as well in lakes that need it, and certainly if they’re stocking SAL offspring, they should make sure the lake has a good forage base.

I don’t mind the program at all, but I’d like to see more than just stocking SAL fry and making sure the fisheries are healthy, especially with food for the bass.

I am not sure if this has but bass fishing today compared to anytime pre 1985 is outstanding. Other than spaying and killing grass TPWD does a great job.

Those programs seem to be much more popular than any contributions they make to largemouth management.

Parks and wildlife does a a great job stocking and managing our lakes here in Texas but when it comes to this program it doesnt have to much to show other them having a title sponsor and being able to showcase the so called "sharelunker program" to other states but you don't see other states using this practice. hmmm Other than the anglers getting recognized, what sharelunker off spring lake has pumped out a new state record, bass in the teens on a regular basis??? None! It's just a nice way to market TPWD and Texas bass fishing.

It kinda reminds me of the women Elizabteth Holmes who started the company Theranos. She made all these promises, took all funding, made everything look great to the public, but never produced the final product.

Broken jaw syndrome!

The 14 lber from Alan Henry was received in good shape.

I was told the Biologist said when he was feeding her one day she bolted and ran into the side of the tank and stopped eating after that.

Pretty sure she did well for over a month before she sustained injury and died.

The fish's genetics don't change. So these SAL's have lived and spawned in those lakes since they were 2 pounders. Several years of their offspring are already in the lake. Bout the only thing that changes is that TPWD can control what male spawns with that SAL female. I'd like to know what percentage of the SAL's caught today were spawned in Athens.

Big fish are like big bucks when the pressure hits they change the way they live and eat and the only time they are caught are during their vulnerability! Close lake fork down for one year and we all may be amazed what size fish get caught the next year! Fish are like many other species even humans they learn from their mistakes and get smarter with age otherwise there would be hundreds if not thousands over 10+ pounds caught every year!

Two died and one of the remaining two actually spawned. Another “successful season”? That’s a “glass 1/2 full” for sure. Maybe these are typical success rates for SAL spawn program?

It's as much about marketing fishing in Texas as anything. Gotta prop up the lake fork economy any way possible.....

I don't think any of the stocking data on TPWD is up to date. Could be wrong, but haven't seen any stocking history on any lake past 2018.

That also showed that they stocked 35,988 ShareLunker fish in 2018 and 15,709 in 2014.
In the 9 years that they stocked fish from the Sharelunker program, starting in 2006, the total number of fish from the program introduced 119,260 bass into Lake Fork. That is much less than half of the Florida fish they stocked into the lake in 2018 alone.

That surprises me. It looks as if it is more show than go.

Looking at that site I found that in 2018 the state stocked 6,349,388 Florida strain bass in Texas lakes.
They stocked 61,414 ShareLunkers in only 4 Texas lakes in 2018.
