I am committed and want to get one before early fall fishing. The above statement about 10% off at bass pro piqued my interest but I find nothing about a sale there. I will also need someone to install.

This afternoon I was crappie fishing, and I had a hard time finding them. Finally I found some structure that was loaded with crappie, I spotlocked on it (ultrex) and I started catching them. The wind was blowing, but not too hard. As I caught fish, walked to the live well and then to the minnow bucket, it was great to not have to find the structure again. Get back in the front seat and the structure was right there on Livescope. Spot lock held me right on the fish.
That said, the back end of the boat will swing around with the wind, and Spotlock does wander a bit sometimes.
I have Spotlock due to my wife. She wants to catch crappie, and when we were in the wind and I had to change bait or get a minnow or change rods, we’d lose our spot where the fish were and blow on down the lake. She griped about that all the time. She’s happy now. And while I was spending my kids’ inheritance, I got Livescope, and I'm happy too.

Used to be if you didn't have a BassPro CC, you could apply at time of purchase and get 10% off entire purchase.

From what I could find yesterday, Minn Kota has the Terrova (base model & lowest cost), the Ultrex (manual deploy), and the Ulterra (has the auto deploy feature) for fresh water fishing. There is also a difference between the Ultrex and Ulterra in the type of motor drive that they have. It all depends on what you can afford and what all features that you "can't live without".

I have been on the hunt for a terrova for a few months now but nobody has them, world wide back order I suppose. Could be that I want 80# with MDI

I can't do without the auto-deploy feature. It is a godsend for people who fish alone.

Ordered an Ultrex today. It will be installed next Thursday. The auto deploy would be a huge plus, but I opted for the cable steer. I am joining the party late but I think it will be real fun.

I only crappie fish, usually on submerged timber. I have an Ulterra and the pedal is way too difficult to use for a novice like myself. It seems difficult to modulate smoothly it seems almost like there is an input delay as you move your foot on the pedal.
What I generally do is turn OFF the Ulterra mode and just use the steering and throttle buttons on the rear of the foot pedal. They have instant response and are very accurate and very easy to use. Then, when we get to the fishing spot or tree we want to fish, I turn ON the Ulterra Mode which allows me to use the JOG feature to position the boat exactly where it needs to be.
I had never operated a trolling motor at all until a year ago, but I am getting better as I get more seat time.
The auto stow/deploy is really beneficial if you are alone, especially if the water is rough.

I think the 3 biggest innovations in crappie fishing as they apply to my fishing style ( probably 90% brush ) are #1 sidescan (for finding brush ) # 2 spotlock # 3 livescope
good luck

I have the Ulterra and I love it! It is a game changer for me. I find myself fishing a brush pile a little more thoroughly because I'm not having to constantly worry about repositioning my boat. Also, I am finding I am not using any more trolling battery than I did with my previous trolling motor. In fact, I be getting more battery time now. Before, if I let off the trolling motor to retie, change jigs or put a fish in the live well, I would drift away from my marker buoy and have to troll back. This was especially true if it was windy.

I know the ultrex has spot lock, but what other models for minkota have it? I have a Powerdrive plain jane, with the I pilot system. Doesn't have link capability to couple through the Humminbird, but it has all the other features.
