I look at it this way...I have paid a boatload of income taxes in my life and only once have gotten more than $100 as a refund (I prefer it to be right at $0), so if they want to return some of the hard earned money I've had taken from me, great!

I do plan on using mine toward a new mattress. My old one is about 20 years old and on it's last spring....

Can't speak for all but in my case it wasn't income that prevented me from my check...just never received one. Checked their site many times and got nowhere. Also understand taxpayers opinions. Many I know say the Govt. is just giving us back some of the money we have paid in. I get all that but i just figure they will come asking for it to be repaid tenfold.

That’s a great strategy, next year when they come back to collect it you won’t be exempt from returning it from your pocket.

Why would they make us repay this one when the last one doesn't have to be repaid?

it's not the individual payment that will have to be repaid but the whole lump sum of the 7-10 trillion they will end up adding to our debt.

At this point Hop, it's beginning to look like a Pyramid scheme, not sure what will happen in the U.S. in the next 10 years, regardless of which party is in charge.

This will be repaid in the form of higher future taxes. The folks who get a windfall from this are those who get the payments and will pay little or no future income taxes. The folks who get screwed are those who do not get payments and are in the higher tax brackets. Classic wealth redistribution with the twist of a deferred payment plan.

Why send a stimulus check to any individuals who weren't laid off from their employment and don't have school-age children?

They are trying to keep the economy from a complete collapse. You best be hoping it works.
