Hence the name Pellet Grill not Pellet Smoker. Most wont operate properly below 200 degrees so the pellets burn instead of smolder. Some such as the Rec Tec can go as low as 180 and give off a little more smoke.

Rec Tec burns somewhere around a pound of pellets per hour. If I'm using Lumberjack at the regular price of $8.99 for a 20lb bag that's .45lb, So I can smoke a couple racks for about $3.00 tops.

Big enough for two slabs of ribs and I've done several briskets. Works great for me and wifey.
John, would a turkey fit on the 340?

The pellet grills don’t produce as strong of a smoke flavor as a traditional stick burner or charcoal/wood chunks smoker. That’s just the way it is. They still produce a good smoke flavor, just not as heavy. They also don’t produce much smoke when cooking at higher temps such as 275/300 and up. The smoke tubes help supplement smoke and smolder even when the cook chamber is at higher temps.

May well just cover your brisket in liquid smoke while its in your easy bake oven...

Many of ya'll don't like the pellet smokers. I love mine, it probably isn't as good as a big stick burner but it works for us.

Here in West Texas the only wood that is readily available is mesquite, My wife gets sick every time she eats anything cooked in mesquite.

I am too busy to go haul a trailer load of wood from the metroplex or New Mexico, I love the convenience of a pellet smoker. I can find other kind of wood pellets on Amazon or locally. JMO,

The only thing worse than a porta potty in the wintertime is a porta potty in the summertime.

I'm out here in West Texas as well and agree on the Mesquite thing. That's all there is around here and while it adds a nice flavor it gives me heartburn for 2 days and i have an iron gut.

I have no experience with the RecTec brand but after I bought a Pitboss 820 I sold my BGE and my stick burner.

Well looks like I'm getting the RT-590. Wife ordered it this morning as an early birthday gift.

From what I was able to research, no. They do occasionally have sales on accessories though. Oh, and a 10% military discount for accessories all the time. Found that out when wife ordered today.

Thanks Mark, I was leaning towards the Pit Boss, basically because it is 1/2 the cost of the more popular brands.

I only need it to smoke baby back ribs.
