Birthday is coming up and needing a new grill. Read all the hype about pellet grills and am leaning hard on the Rec Tec RT-590. Anyone own one or have first hand experience.

I've had the 590 for a year or so. Been very pleased with it. Any issues or wish you went with the 700? I'm thinking the 590 is more then big enough considering its just for the wife and I and occasionally a few guests. 2-4 at most.

The 590 has been plenty big for me. I could easily do 3 pork butts, or a brisket and pork butt. Did a couple racks of ribs a couple weeks ago with plenty of room left over. I like Lumber Jack Hickory Pellets. I get them at Atwoods. I ran out and forgot to buy more. Buccees had B&B Championship blend that I bought. I'm really liking those. The wifi control is awesome. I do use an A-Maze-N smoking tube when I'm doing large meats for extra smoke. I researched pellet grills for a few months before I decided on the Rec Tec. I made the correct choice. Zero issues.

I have an Easy Bake RT-340.
Big enough for two slabs of ribs and I've done several briskets. Works great for me and wifey.

We just bought a new 700 model and are absolutely the happiest we have ever been with any smoker. They are every bit as good as they say they are. We have had a Bradley Chunk wood smoker, a Bradley Puck feed smoker, a Mastercraft and most recently a Green Mountain Pellet grill. None of them compare to the ease, quality and smoke of the RecTec. It’s just the wife and myself but we went with the larger 700 and are very happy with it. On our first cook,Last night, we loaded it with 2 racks of ribs, big pan of baked beans and 4 good size sweet potatoes. We are pretty good cooks and have a small hobby of road trips for good BBQ, but the meal we had last night rivaled any of our favorite dinners. Our reasoning for going larger is that you will have space to cook an entire dinner on it or load it up with meats you can enjoy for several days or vacuum seal for later. You will be using the same amount of pellets no matter the grill size, so make the use of your pellets and put more food on it.Couple more things that made us choose the 700 over the 590 is it has a longer, 6 year warranty, a light inside, a chimney stack as opposed to rear vents that you adjust and rear hopper that can fit 40 lbs of pellets. Best decision we have made in a long time! Go for it!

Was wondering if the larger model used more pellets or not. Did a little research and from what I understand they all use about a pound an hour. Guess I may up my budget. Decisions Decisions

I bought the Rec Tec 590 and couldn’t be happier with it. The thing I like about the 590 is the three evenly spaced exhaust vents on the back. I feel like it helps even out the temps inside the cooking chamber, as opposed to a single exhaust stack on one side. A lot of people like the looks of a stack and I don’t know of that is even an issue on the Rec Tecs. The temp control is excellent as well.
100% recommend the 590, but I don’t think you can go wrong either way.

I’m still wondering why you need a amazn smoke tube when you bought a smoker? One of the multiple complaints I keep hearing about any pellet smoker is It doesn’t produce a smoked product.
Smoke on!

The pellet grills don’t produce as strong of a smoke flavor as a traditional stick burner or charcoal/wood chunks smoker. That’s just the way it is. They still produce a good smoke flavor, just not as heavy. They also don’t produce much smoke when cooking at higher temps such as 275/300 and up. The smoke tubes help supplement smoke and smolder even when the cook chamber is at higher temps.

They have those pellets on sale for $6.99 right now. 20# bag.
