That sucks. What exactly does the clause say? I am in the insurance business.
A reman works fine, but its expected life is definitely shorter.

change agents!!! that is total BS!!! I have State Farm and had a new lower unit installed a few years ago on another boat... but then again, I guess it depends on which type of boat insurance you have. I pay for total replacement insurance.. they either fix it or give me $17000.

JTA,
I've used reman lower units for years. All the parts are new with the exception of the housing itself. Merc certifies the housings and makes sure they are in like new condition.

I left a message with my agent to get clarification on this clause.
I guess I'm cool with the reman lower unit. It's all luck of the draw when it comes to anything electronic or mechnical. I may end up with the mack daddy of reman'd lower units!
This all really sucks because I'm gonna propose to my girlfriend soon and I wanted to buy a new boat while I could!

2 months or so. Buddy I'm dragging my feet big time! That ring is my last piece of leverage! Janna told me I have to propose by July 4th or she's not moving back to Fort Worth with me!!!
Geez, I bet Jamie ever pulled that on you.

I wouldn't hesitate to use a Merc reman LU. The truth is, I've used Jasper reman engines and transmissions with great results. They have a great reputation. I didn't know they did LU's also, but I'm sure they are new internally. The housing is still a Mercury housing.
