I love when the discussion of truck MPG forgets they tow a boat that drinks 26 GPH...I'd rather have a supercharger on a v8.

If I had the money, I'd be looking at this blown V8. Since I don't, I'll keep plugging along in my 224,000 mile ecoboost.

Roush SC adding 250 HP to that Coyote 5.0, a whole lot of torque and some 5.11 Tactical fancy stuff on the inside.

Roush does nice things with those engines. But what they do to the bodies is FUGLY.

I have a 2016 F150 with the 5.0 and 6 speed tranny. It went to the shop 5 different times for a total of 7 weeks before it hit 36,000 miles. They changed all kinds of stuff on those 5 trips to the dealer to keep it running, even had the water pump go out before 36,000 miles. It now has 80,000 and is running, haven't had any significant issues since.

I currently drive 60 miles round trip on a 2 lane hill county road and almost never get to drive over 65 mph. I average 17 mpg on my daily commute. Yes, it pulls my 22 foot bay boat fine, not Ecoboost fine, but does OK, and will average 11-12 mpg doing it.

My old man has the same truck with the ecoboost and a 3:73 rear end, there is absolutely No Comparison when towing. The ecoboost will flat walk away from the 5.0. We use his truck almost exclusively when pulling the boat or the tractor.

if you went with the only truck to get a perfect dependability rating you would not have to decide turbos or not. Decision would be easy 5.7.

I have owned a few Ford V8 trucks, SUV's etc...I currently own a V6 Ecobeast.

Here's what I've found:

1) Both the V8 and V6 will eat the gas when applying the happy pedal
2) Both will not give you some mystical MPG rating when towing
3) The V8 sounds better when adding exhaust, headers, etc. (I have a nice Magnafow system on my truck now, it sounds good, but not the V8 throaty good)
4) Those turbos spooling and letting off can be quite addicting...I love the sounds of the blowoff when letting off the gas
5) Torque and pulling weight is 100% owned by the V6 my last truck & SUV that were V8's were turds off the line or merging into traffic. V6 dominates this
6) V6 owns in the ability to pull more...the saved weight from the V8 along with the abilities of the turbos allows the truck to be more capable here. (This could also be a marketing scheme, so take this lightly)

My current MPG is right at 15.5 MPG combined (towing / daily driving)...towing I can see around 15 easy if I stay under 70. Anything above and I average around 13.

I have the F150 Ecoboost Platinum (4 door), max towing, 3.55 gears, leveled 2.5", 33" tires on 22" wheels, Magnaflow exhaust, K&N drop in filter, Pedal Commander, & AirRide air suspension for heavy loads.

Had an '18 Raptor for 2 years. Thing was a thirsty beast but a hoot to drive. With a good tail wind it got 18 on the highway once or twice but usually got 15. Around town 12 and towing my boat 8. Had the cam phasers replaced at 33k miles and after that it kept over heating. Three trips to the dealer and they couldn't figure it out. Went back to a Super Duty.
